From Matt Hayes's column in the Sporting News:
Steve Spurrier was asked how South Carolina beat UT last year. His response: "The same way Vanderbilt did." That is why Spurrier is my favorite opposing coach. Always looking to stick the needle to his adversaries.

Just when you thought your rep with half the site couldn't get any worse

Funny quote though... From an objective standpoint.

Clever comebacks? Like seeing crappy football then clapping?

That would be an exceptionally short thread.

I think we can all agree that Stevie Boy is a lot funnier now that he's at SC :biggrin2:

I cannot help myself, I will admit, I love Steve Spurrier!

I love his demeanor and his style of play.

Could you imagine Spurrier in orange!

As much as I hate to admit - things were kind of dull with out him around. Like him or not you can't argue with his success at the college level - and he is definately in CPF's head.

It'll be nice to add the Cocks in the mix in the East. Love him or hate him, he'll make you work hard to earn those points.

A lot of folks had this exact same thought when Holtzy arrived. didn't happen.
I don't know if Spurrier can do it or not at SC like he did at UF, but I agree it is fun to have him back in the SEC East...

I would say that within 3 years the Ol' Ball coach will have USC right where he wants them talent wise - look what he was able to do with the leftovers from holtz's wonderful recruiting and then all the kids they kicked off that team - pretty impressinve when you think about it. They will be a good team before too long.

Well SC does have some decent HS level talent. Since USC and Clemson have sucked, the state has been raided. Now SS can lock the state down and even dip into nearby states. He can dip into GA and skim the unnoticed talent here as well.

Yeah, maybe when we beat him first then it'll be funny.

South Carolina does not have that much talent to begin with, especially between two major D-IA schools. And Spurrier ain't getting anything from the state of Georgia, Richt has that place on lockdown.

Correction: Rodney Garner has the state of Georgia on lockdown. Richt is merely the most recent beneficiary.

Holt did a decent job recruiting. Spurrier has enough talent to win IMO. They need to find a RB and step up the defense.

No, actually GA is a free for all. Some of the best goes to UGA. But UF, FSU, Auburn, Bama, Clemson and many of the smaller schools dip into the talent pool here. UT is about the only nearby school not dipping into the pool at the level of the others.

He sure did it with us and the Gators last year.
2-0 and could and should have beat Ga.

However you'd like to put it.

Point being, Richt has the best shot at that talent. Sure there are kids that grew up near state borders, the ones that grew up watching FSU or Auburn or Clemson or whoever. Happens in every state. But Georgia is among the best programs in the country of securing in-state talent.
