I read before the game yesterday that Steve Spurrier was 14-8 all time against the Vols. I started to think, most of those wins came against Fulmer when the evil genius was at UF, but he also beat Majors once each while at Duke, and UF.

Spurrier never lost to Dooley, and he lost in his only attempt against Kiffy. In all of those wins that were close games, at a critical moment in the game, the Evil Genius would always find a way to trick our coaches to win the game. Fulmer more often than not looked like a fool when he coached against Spurrier the tricky evil genius would always get Fulmer for the win.

But, yesterday the Evil Genius met his match with Butch, late in the first half, the Cocks needed a TD badly, so in a critical situation Spurrier gives the Vols a look that they were completely unprepared to stop, so Butch called for a time out and got it right before the play, but SC got the play off and the refs stopped it giving UT the time out. Spurrier, the Evil Genius was hot, because before the play got stopped the trick was exposed and it would have been a TD pass to the TE, but it wasn't and the Vols were ready for it.

Later in the game on fourth down, the Vols needed the ball back badly and three points to win. Spurrier burned two time outs looking at how the Vols would react to his offensive formations, finially he decided he had no other choice but to punt, but the damage was done as SC was out of time outs as the tricky evil genius had been out coached by Butch and company. This is the first coaching staff at UT that I have seen not fall for a Spurrier trick and lose a close game to him! Butch and his staff are the real deal, and IMO that's why the Vols won yesterday!

So to the Evil Genius, I say welcome to the new Era in Tennessee Football where our coaches are ready for you, you little tricky bastard!

Go Vols!!!

SOS is no longer a genius, the game has pass Him by. His ego gets the best of Him and He gets too cute out there(Like blowing two badly needed timeouts to see what defense Tennessee was running).

Nicely summarized. Spurrier is an ass and he's smart. And the two don't just equate to the obvious 'word association,' but instead highlight why he's been such a thorn in UT's side for so many years.

Your right, coach BJ's TO was clutch, and Darth Visor was in full trickaration mode in the 4th. While plodding out the O on 4th and 2 didn't result in a 1st down we did have to use our last TO. Thank goodness trickaration is no substitute for making plays. In Butch we trust.... GBO

But the SOB Genius did pull off a gutsy 4th down call that eventually ended with 7 points to the Cocks, so while Butch did real well, Spurrier can never be trusted as long as he is sending in the plays. And FYI, did Fulmer have Spurrier over for Brunch today??

The game has not bassed him by. As much as I don't like him, his O is creative without great play from the qb position and they consistantly have a good defense. S. Carolina may not contend for it all this year but you can never sleep on a Spurrier team.

Might not have thrown his visor, but he did throw his headset.

And before you say Spurrier doesn't still coach well...he has brought a generally afterthought SC program to top ten (or so) status each year. He still coaches pretty well...but can't get all the top recruits from FL like he used to.

Can't stand him, but can't say he doesn't know the game or how to coach.

As much as Spurrier's influence accounts for USCe's rise to the the top echelon of the SEC east, one must also give give credit to our fall in the last years. If UT had held its spot of excellence, the Gamecocks would have been, for the most part, a middle of the pack East Conference team.

I don't how long you have been watching at analyzing SEC Football, but to say the game has passed him by is a bit of an over exaggeration, the game may have caught up to him a bit, but he's still the tricky bastard and evil genius that he has always been, just imagine if he were still at UF or at Bama, he would be willing SEC and National Titles, but at SC he has transformed a perennial losing program into a top ten program. He is still an Evil Genius.

And if he had tricked UT's defense and caught them off guard or misaligned and went for it and got it on fourth and two, to run out the clock and win the game, everyone would be saying the Evil Genius tricked the Vols again. That's my point exactly, this coaching staff was ready for the tricky genius like no other staff that I have ever seen at UT.

Fulmer made Spurrier look like a genius alot of times. Fulmer also helped alot of coaches (Richt, Saban, Meyer, heck, even Zook) make their mark in the SEC. And yeah, he beat Dooley. So did everyone else.

Our team won, but it also took a great pass and catch by Worley and North. Without that we would have lost. the ole ball coach will be in the Hall of Fame, and he was successful at Duke, UF and now SC so yes CBJ coached a great game but that does not necessarily mean the game has passed Spurrier by.

Spurrier is Spurrier, he just says what he thinks whether its right, wrong or indifferent. You never have to guess what he is thinking or read between the lines with him. It used to be really annoying until I understood him, now I find him refreshing in the highly sensitive world that we live in where no one tells anyone the truth. Just my two cents.

Spurrier just an old guy that's over stayed his tenure in the sport.
Always enjoyed his comic side. Now he's just SAD.

Good buddy of mine is a Cock Grad and he was thoroughly disgusted with the way Spurrier coached and acted on the sideline. So, for as often as the Old Balls coach out coached our previous coaches, it was nice to see our New Vols and coaches humble CSS.

Go Vols!

Actually, you probably should say something to the effect of, we finally "got you" on your way out, because Spurrier is in the very twilight of his career, it seems.

It seemed to me he was just off Saturday. Seemed like he didn't care as muh or wasn't into the game or maybe waaaay over looking us!

Butch calling that time out when they had their faux linemen in was clutch. Not sure who on the staff caught it but it gave me a sense of relief that in the heat of a close game we are catching things like that. Would have been easy to overlook.

I agree, no more "deer in the headlight" look from the UT coaches, and its very refreshing.
