Spurrier to South Carolina

There is nothing official on that. ESPN is making conjecture following what most other places are putting out as rumors.

Well, Charleston radio here in SC sure makes it sound pretty offical, but you're right, there has been nothing on paper.

It very well could happen but Spurrier and SC better realize he will not do any better than Holtz. UT and Saban and Richt had him figured out when he left the SEC plus he doesn't like to recruit and he has to deal Clemson and a state that does not have the amount of HS talent Florida had. Yes he won at Duke but he didn't win championships there and he won't as SC.

It’s sounding like they won't officially announce it until after the Clemson game. I guess to limit the distraction from the media.

Sounds like it's going to happen, unless Holtz does something drastic. It's a little scary because SC has had the talent to compete with us but seems to lack the right attitude - I bet Spurrier will change that. If he can get some out of state guys to come to SC and keep the in-state guys home, they could turn into a monster. Man, I wish he'd stay out of the SEC....

No one not even ESPN can confirm this. Holtz hasn't even decided if he'll retire yet.
Spurrier may have told them if Lou retires he'll listen to what they have to say.
Its all conjecture right now just like the story that broke yesterday that said Urban Meyer to UF was a done deal and now is proven he hasn't even been contacted.

Kinda funny reading the posts on GamecockCentral. Everyone is jumping up and down, laughing at Florida, and buying up all the champagne in Columbia (which probably equals about, errr, 10 bottles. . . .and it's Cook's) to celebrate the upcoming National Championship in 2005.

Wait a minute, last I checked, ONE legend couldn't get it done there. What makes them think that Spurrier is going to be their Salvation? I mean, fine to get a little excited about the next year(s), but ESPN is running a "How many years until Spurrier takes SC to the Promised Land (BCS Bowl)?" poll. Get a friggin clue.

Everyone knows that there are 2 classes of football teams in the East -- three teams in each. And, everyone in the SEC knows that South Carolina better be happy that they aren't sitting below Vandy and Kentucky at the time being. It wasn't long ago, though, and remember -- times can change.

Florida will return to being a great football team, Georgia is strong, and Tennessee has tradition (not to mention a lot of young talent). I'd suggest to the Cocky faithful, how 'bout focusing on trying to get out of the bottom half of the SEC standings, then maybe we'll talk about Bowl games.

I think you are correct that the other SEC schools had figured out how to put a stop, or at least slow down somewhat, Spurrier's fun 'n gun offense.

From 1990-1998, Spurrier strung together an incredible 93-18-1 record (.835) that included 5 SEC Championships, 1 National Championship, and 8 straight top 10 finishes.

However, from 1999-2001, Spurrier's record was an acceptable 29-9 (.763). The 9 losses in 3 seasons was the most in any 3 year period during Spurrier's time at Florida.

Spurrier won the ACC Championship in his last season at Duke in 1989.

I'd take Urban Meyers any day over Spurrier. Florida is getting the better deal and if they do get Urban, the Florida fans should have nothing but positive things to say.

I tend to agree. Spurrier can never live back up to his old standards. Urban Meyer is a young coach, ready to hit the bigtime.

You are probably right about Meyers. He WILL have a chance to prove if he can coach or not. Playing UT, GA, FL, LSU, AU and the likes on a weekly basis will be a test. I think UM finds the kitchen to be hotter than he thought.

I think Spurrier to SC actually forces Florida into making the right decision and going with a younger guy who will hopefully be there for awhile. If they had brought Spurrier back, they were just going to be looking for another coach in the next few years. As much I love to bash the Gators - it's not like their program is in the toilet. They just aren't very far from being a 9+ win team again.

If I could send a message to Spurrier at SC it would be that I have a great suggestion for Offensive Line Coach for him.

ALso the rumor is that Hootie Johnson (Chairman of Augusta National) would give Spurrier a membership to there if he get the SC Job. Johnson Graduated from there.

This is great for the conference. We have the notarity back and if FLorida can get Meyer, then there will be no quesiton as to who has the best conference. I don't think Spurrier will do what he did at Florida, but they will improve.

Not just the best conference.... but the best division.....

Phil Fulmer, Tennessee
Mark Richt, Georgia
Steve Spurrier, South Carolina
Urban Meyer, Florida

We know Spurriers offensive philosophy, Fun and Gun, but does anyone on the board know anything about Urban Myer's philosophy. Is there anything unique about it and does it play to Leaks's strengths. I know Utah has been scoring alot of points but I haven't researched it. If Fla and SC suck up all the top offensive playmakers, then maybe TN can suck up all the defensive playmakers and even things out.

isn't Utah an option offense? leak doesn't run the option much does he?
