I am excited about this one.
I've been following St. Mary's since very early on in the season when I discovered that they were a spread-covering juggernaut. There is an interesting case of Ali-Frazier-Foreman going on with St. Mary's-Gonzaga-WCC.
When St. Mary's plays against the San Diego's or Pepperdine's of the world, they destroy them. The games are rarely much of a contest after the first ten minutes, and St. Mary's usually covers the spread going away.
When the Zags play the same two terrible WCC teams, they win in a much closer and much uglier fashion. Better results against common opponents is at least some evidence that St. Mary's is the better team, si?
Not so fast. When the Zags and Gaels played each other earlier this year at St. Mary's, the Zags pretty much dominated the game from start to finish. They were way more physical. St. Mary's couldn't get a rebound to save themselves, and the outcome of the game was never really in question.
I'm interested to see if this game plays out with a script similar to the last contest, or if St. Mary's can pull the road upset and give the transitive property of equality a fighting chance.
