Does anyone know an effective way to remove the browser pop-up virus Stamplive?

I've run Kaspersky, including deep scan, with no luck. This son of a *()#& continually pops up new windows with ads, "windows upgrades/fixes," etc. There are a bajillion removal tools, but I don't trust them.

Use this. That should remove it. you'll have to manually edit your browser setting back to the way you want them.

There is also this tutorial if malware-bytes doesn't work. I suggest the manual way.

Any idea how you got the virus ?

No. I had to reinstall windows a while back and there was a time that I couldn't get Kaspersky re-activated. My boys surf some and play some web-based games, so I'm guessing that's where it came from. I basically only use that computer for music and Volnation :)

Malwarebytes is a great suggestion. If it still doesn't find it, try booting the computer into safe mode and running the scan again. Also when running a Malwarebytes scan, make sure to select the custom scan option, detail which drives you need to scan (C drive obviously) and make sure the "scan for rootkits" option is checked. This scan will take a while, so it's best to do it when you can walk away from the machine for a bit.

Hope that helps.

For future reference, if you ever experience dead time again with Kaspersky you can temporarily install Microsoft Security Essentials until you iron out the subscription payment for Kaspersky. It's free virus protection for Windows and works just fine. I couple my virus protection with Malwarebytes though.

Update: no luck with Malwarebytes. At the suggestion of my brother, running Spybot now. Kaspersky and Malwarebytes cleaned a bunch of stuff, but this one is tough.

Doc, did you try the website link I sent you? It requires running 3 different programs which includes Malwarebytes but Malwarebytes can't remove that by itself. These things can be very tricky once infected but not impossible to remove.

Here it is again.

Another option is to use System Restore (if you had it turned on). With that, you can select a date from days before your virus showed up and it should get rid of your issues. I'd actually go a few weeks prior to when you noticed it if possible.

Run these in this order, and get back to me.

1. Roguekiller
2. Junkware Removal Tool
3. AdwCleaner

After you run AdwCleaner, you will have to reboot your computer. Also, Roguekiller doesn't select everything to be deleted, after running its scan. You want to select everything that is in gray, yellow, or red in each tab for deletion.

I didn't do all 3, was hoping MWB would get it alone. I'll try this process next. I assume the programs are all safe?

Update: 3-step posted from Coug removed some threats, bit did not kill the popup adware. RogueKiller kept hanging on a mal file TammgF113.sys, so I Googled and found another app called SpyHunter4, which is supposed to be effective. It has found multiple forged files and rootkit infection missed by the others. Will report once complete...

I use spy hunter. It works great on my pc. I believe gramps recommended it to me last year. I've had great results with it.

Hate to speak too quickly, but I do believe SH4 took care of it! Went ahead and ran Junkware removal and Adwcleaner again, just to make sure.

So far, $39 well spent.
