If the season ended today, Tennessee would play Alabama on Tuesday in 1st round. Doubtless, the SEC would do everything they could to make this a night game so as many Bama inbreds could be there as possible.

However, I think Bama will continue to drop and will be closer to cut line than the bye line when all is said and done.

The Vols still have to play the #3 team on road and #1 team at home to finish the season. Bama has to go to #5 and host #3

Because of Auburn's tiebreaker, we are really up 1/2 game out of 13th place.

The good news is that Auburn and Kentucky play next week in Lexington. So one of those teams will stay behind us if we win one game in Starkville. Auburn closes hosting LSU.

The final weekend UK goes to UGA. and the same thing will apply again. UGA plays at Ole Miss next week and have a better than average chance of gettign swept.

So, even though we are only 1/2 game out of 13th, we are still in good shape provided we avoid sweeps. As there are several teams between us and elimination that play each other.

If Kentucky has two good weekends, we should be no worse than 12th.

We need Kentucky to do good or do terrible. Either extreme helps us. We can end the season playing our best baseball. That would be the best for us. We control our destiny along with KY.

Two teams that got off to terrible starts (Florida and Mississippi State) are playing well now and unfortunately the Vols play both.

Several teams that got off to fast starts (Kentucky, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee) are treading water.

Vanderbilt got back on track against a Mizzou team that is now just mailing it in. They close with @Florida next week and home against SC. I would be very surprised if Dores stayed in top-4 and got the bye. I think LSU who plays Bama and hosts Auburn will get that bye.

Right now, Florida is a national seed. Ole Miss is just on the outside looking in. Vanderbilt despite having a high RPI needs to close well to be top-8 nationally.

NCAA regional hosts look to be Florida, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Ole Miss and LSU. (Miss. State's RPI is simply too high at #37) The NCAA may like a 6th host and that will come down to Kentucky, Miss State and Alabama if they close well.

Those not hosting appear to be solid #2 seed if they can get to the NCAA. Tennessee, Kentucky, Miss. State, Alabama, and Texas A&M.

The team the Vols should worry most about in these two final weeks and the SEC Tournament is Arkansas.

The Raxorbacks have a one game lead in the SEC, Have played 5-more games but have a worse overal winning percentage at 30-20 compared to UT's 28-17. Their RPI is 54 compared to UT's 30 (per Warren Nolan)

Arkansas may have a better conference record than Vols but get left out of NCAA play because of the strength of Tennessee's schedule and RPI. (Thanks UNLV and AZ State)

Arkansas' schedule is far easier than Tennessee's (A&M, @Mizzou)

Vanderbilt is a different team with Fulmer on the mound on Saturdays. I think he's keeping Beede a little tighter too. I wouldn't be surprised if they get hot all of a sudden. I think the only way they get a national seed is to win 4 of their next 6 and do what they always do in Hoover. There's no question they have the depth of arms to do it, even without the bye.

Amen. That's the one team I was really really rooting for to lose this weekend. I don't want to leave any doubt in the committee's mind that we deserve a spot. If we finish above the teams with high RPI's (UGA, Arky, Auburn) we make this a lot easier for the committee on selection day. We need to find a way to stay in 10th, so we don't have to worry about our performance in Hoover.

Whoever loses on day one will leave Hoover with one loss, everyone else will likely leave with 2. Is 0-1 better than 1-2? Who knows. I'd like to not have to find out that answer.

I'm not surprised about Florida. I live in Florida & this State is loaded with elite baseball talent. With Florida, Florida State & Miami here not every good player leaves the State. Also UCF, USF, Jacksonville, Florida Gulf Coast & other decent small school programs too.

Can anyone tell me how we match up against Cowbell State? I know road games are tough, but I would feel a lot better if we could steal two of three from the Bulldogs.

Our series this weekend was intense. Made out to two of the three. I actually hold some real hatred towards LSU Baseball so I was happy to tell those folks to promptly Geaux HOME!

That being said, its equally critical for this squad to not fold at Arkansas. I fully expect them to win 2/3 against Ole Miss at home. At this juncture, I'm just hoping to get in somewhere else other than the Houston Regional, but I don't think that's gonna happen.

Would hate to get down there and have to deal with Cougar High and the sip crowds.

From Kendall Rogers Chat today:

Comment From Jimmy
What are your thoughts on the Vols and the postseason?

Jimmy, The Vols still have a high RPI and some nice wins, especially in non-conference play, but still have work to do with a series @ MS State and at home against Florida still remaining. If Tennessee can get one of those final two series and get a couple of wins in Hoover, I think it gets into the field. As it stands right now, pretty touch and go.
