They don't emphasize sports the way SEC schools do. They don't care much about mascots or the band. Yet, they have the most successful athletic program in the country, so they're not Vandy.

Rooting for the Vols, but have to admit, Stanford is one of the top 3 universities in the US. Medicine, science, they're at the top of the pyramid.

So what if the tree is weird? The weirdness is kind of cool.

We flew a departure route out of Moffet, when we were flying tactical missions on the Soviet boomers, that went over the Stanford campus. People do not realize what a huge campus it is, owning miles of undeveloped land. On a remote section of campus they have their own linear accelerator for nuclear research. It stretches for what looked like a mile. Now that is a well-funded university.

4,000 acres if I remember correctly. Indeed, it's an extremely well funded university.

They were previously the "Indians" but got woke long, long before woke was cool and changed to their nick name to the school color in the early 1970's.
