New STARGATE Trilogy Coming from Warner Bros and MGM!

New STARGATE Trilogy Coming from Warner Bros and MGM

Warner Bros. and MGM are set to develop a new trilogy based on the 1994 sci-fi adventure film Stargate. The co-writer and director of the original film, Roland Emmerich, will direct the new trilogy, and his long time producing partner Dean Devlin will obviously produce.

This is a project that Emmerich and Devlin have been working on for years. I guess the studios like their pitch. Over a year ago the director had this to say:

"Stargate has always had this empty hole. When we made the first one, we always intended on doing part two and three, and we were prevented for years. And our hope is that we can get another chance at Stargate and tell the entire story we wanted to tell."

I've always liked the concept of Stargate. The first movie was really cool, and I enjoyed watching the many TV series on the SyFy Channel. I'm really interested to see what they have planned for the new trilogy, but they've got a fun world to play with, so let's hope they make the best of it.

Emmerich is currently shooting the drama Stonewall, which is set amid the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York. He is also in pre-production on ID Forever Part I and Part II, which are back-to-back sequels to his classic alien invasion film, Independence Day.

I actually hope they just do a complete reboot with a new original film since it has been so long since the original.

Its sad that we will likely never see any of the TV series's characters/actors together again.

This is cool news!

I've been a fan ever since the original movie. Watched SG1, Atlantis, and Universe(which was my least favorite of the 3).

Stargate Universe had potential but it focused too much on the pissing contest between the captain and the lead scientist. It also lacked the humor of the other two series.

If Amanda Tapping could lose a few pounds, I'd like to see her reprise her role as Samantha Carter.

This! The bickering and fighting in the episodes was such a turn off for the show. It was also very dark for a Stargate show.

I miss all these series, as infinite as the universe is potentially they could have told story for freaking ever. I remember when showtime cancel it and Sci-Fi picked it up. really developed it into what and the way it is remembered today. Then Sci-fi is bought out and eventually becomes SYFY and powers that be basically say scrap them and lets more on. I hate those c movies that inundate that channel today.

Anywho....very much looking forward to this new trilogy.

With the popularity of ancient aliens, this could be big.

Yeah, I loved the franchise minus Universe. They could have told stories upon stories with all the worlds that had gates that they knew about. I hate that we never got an actual story with the Furlings! :bad:

I have ever season set of both SG1 & Atlantis and even some of the novels from the website StargateNovels.com My favorite SG1 novel is "Roswell"

Huge Stargate fan both of the original movie, SG1 and Atlantis. Universe just sucked IMO and I couldn't even get all the way through season 1.

Apparently Dean Devlin has zero plans to have anything from the TV shows in the reboot:

Dean Devlin: Time To Fill Stargate 'Hole' | Airlock Alpha

I knew Emrich and Devlin didn't want to be associated with SG1 when it was on Showtime, but I'm wondering what will happen since all the rights were sold to MGM on the Stargate franchise. Here's to hoping it won't suck, but I am not holding my breath.

Bastages went on for 10 seasons of SG1, 5 of SGA and 2 of SGU and never told the story.

I will kick Brad Wright, Robert Cooper, Paul Mullie and Joe Mallozzi in the shins for leaving that hanging out there...

As for as Universe goes I liked the brilliant chubby kid, the young military kid and the Captain the part that ruined the show for me was Robert Carlyle's & Lou Diamond Phillips characters! Especially Carlyle's that's probably why I can't stand him on Once Upon a Time! :banghead2: Had they left those two character's off the show I think it would hve been more popular as it would have been more like Atlantis and the character dynamics it had that was so good.

My only hope for these new films is that these are the same guys who did the original film. (which I really like) The bad thing is these are the same guys who did the original film!

I've heard they hated how popular the TV series became and because of that they will go back and completely reboot the entire concept of the show to something barely recognizable as Stargate.

For me, the character dynamics in SG1 (until Season 9 at least) and SGA were the major selling point. I didn't care as much for SG1 after Season 8 as the storyline just wasn't as captivating (although I would have...still would do naughty things to Morena Baccarin. "Origin is about to become a lot more appealing to the males of this galaxy." lol) and the characters just didn't mesh as well with the exception of Claudia Black adding the comic relief. They hit it out of the park with the original four and minus the blip in Season 6, kept it going good.

And I think the cast dynamics in SGA were awesome as well. Even with the leadership changing from Season 1 to 5, the chemistry just couldn't be beat. And like you, I think Universe was just too dark and too much high school drama about who's sleeping with who and petty cat fights going on.

I fear the reboot will not be good as a follow up since the chemistry and background stories that evolved in the TV series won't be as solid. There's only so much you can cram into a two hour movie and even with sequels just won't get the captivation the show was able to bring. I'll watch them, but I think many Stargate fans that were brought on board from the TV series will end up being disappointed.

After the 2 or 3 episodes were they appeared. They were so tech advanced and did not want to bothered with it all. So it could be argued that they were to omnipotent and just too far above us to see us as anything other than not interesting enough to mess with.

It was pretty odd seeing MacGyvor with an assult rifle standing next to an Ewok like creature though. :)

Speaking of, this was a pretty funny outtake:

I wonder if we'll see any more Mustadge in the new Stargate?
