Just got through watching the International Space Station pass over this evening. Pretty neat stuff. I never realized you could actually see satellites or the space station from earth, but my neighbor told me that when she was a girl, her family went out at night to see Sputnik when it passed over and Sputnik was no bigger than a basketball. It seemed hard to believe, but I read online where there were apparently watch parties of people gathering back then to watch it pass over.

I've always had a mild interest in seeing what planets were in the sky, but I just haven't had the time to get too far into it or even bother to go out an by a telescope or anything.

Pretty neat stuff.

My kids have had some cheap telescopes before. They weren't much, but we had fun playing around with them.

The ISS Spotter app is pretty cool. Shows you upcoming opportunities when it will be more visible in your area. Also, my kids and I really enjoy the SkyView app.

Anybody see the perseids last couple of days? I wanted to, but big trees block home view to NE and I was leery of going out to remote park after midnight.

Gotta get elevation.

I recall the Leonids at RM State Park in college. One was so bright it looked liked a car coming down road.
