To me, we have not been the same since Rae took over Tess Darby’s starting role in the game against Auburn, when Tess was out due to COVID protocols. To me the starting lineup needs to be as followed.

Key
Dye
Horston
Walker
Darby

The first to come off the bench:

Burrell or Puckett (Sara has been good this year)
Miles

Rae seems to do better coming off the bench. She needs to allow the others to settle the game, and then she can come in be that offensive threat. Her wanting to get things going quickly isn’t working, and is only costing us possessions with her turnovers and bad shots.

Agree tess darby does not hurt the team as some on say. Tess sitting more fix lady vols offence? I do not think so. Rae burell is not 100% if you watch her after ark hogs post game press. She sitting sideways ice on knee. I know in football it takes year and half to get back around 100 %. I know rae did not tear acl in her knee. But she did hurt her knee and body can see she slower now. And she this feels it. Lot of tenn ncaa turnments hope on rae knee improving from now to march. Tess may not be and all american. But she not the anchor to tenn chamship hopes..

Coach Harper was asked by Maria Cornelius if she has considered putting Tess back into the starting lineup, and her response didn’t seem to give much certainty that the starting line up was even a problem the last few games. Maria asks the question at the 15:45 mark.

I thought the media did a good job of asking pointed questions and not just throwing Kellie a lifeline. Kellie acknowledged the staff's disappointment and concerns with the lack of competitive effort, and Jordan Walker gave mature responses about what needed to be fixed re: facing pressure defenses.

Maintaining our poise, composure will be huge Sunday. Mentioned at the end we’ve struggled mightily on the road during late starts….early tip!

Starting line-up was not really the problem. We are a poor shooting team and have made up for that by crashing the boards adn defending well. A lot of TOs that lead to transition scores are death in that they are easy buckets and make the overcome "the bad shooting with rebounding" mountain much steeper to climb.

After Auburn, the LVs did a pretty good job in breaking the Arkansas press by not dribbling so much and using out bigs, like Key as an outlet. This game, for what ever reason, the team went back to a break the press by dribbling strategy. Neither Miles nor the Jordans are that good at press breaking (though Jordan H seems to be our best option). We also had Rae trying to break the press which did Not work out all.

On top of that, the LVs missed a number of open lay-ups, point blank put backs, and FTs at a crucial junctures in the 2nd and 3rd quarters when Florida was starting to gain some separation. Throw in a bunch of unforced TOs where players had the ball go through their hands or dribbled the ball of their foot and you have an implosion. This game was their worst of the season and much more so than the Auburn loss, because they completely lost their composure.

So yes, the team has reached a key turning point in the season. When you have a team that has been getting by on "effort', you are going to almost inevitably hit a down phase and this stretch of the season is clearly that point. I don't think is the time to start dancing on the LV's grave nor to whistle past the graveyard either. A lot rides on how they respond in the next few road conference games.

Bingo. I just sent you a response in another thread saying the same thing.

🗣🗣🗣 perfectly stated. Couldn’t agree more.

The team doesn't want Rae to further damage her knee. Sometimes she is the open player and the first choice for a pass not received. Kelly watches her closely and keeps her rested as best she can and still use her more and more as time goes by. When Rae gets the ball she is in a rush to find an opening for a shot. Perhaps safer plays could be developed just for her since she has such great ability.

Sorry, Rae is cleared to play and if the staff had concerns about her knee not being sound, she would not be on the floor. Rae is driving to the basket, challenging for rebounds, diving to the floor and she played a lot of minutes in recent. games. Your comments simply do not correspond to any reality. Rae is playing very inconsistently right now but it is not because she is being protected.

Very perceptive analysis, Vols2015

You must not have noticed she doesn't receive a lot of passes when she is wide open for a shot.

Never been to concerned with who starts everyone has to play well and we have to many players not doing that now. If we can't get great play out of players like Burrell, Horston, Key, and Dye then were probably going to lose so those four have to bring a lot to the game and they haven't been able to in the last two road games.

Puckett delivers in production per minutes played, she is not fast, or even quick, and she is not much of a ball handler, but she is so cerebral she over comes all that. Smart player, great shooter and passer also. Can play anywhere except PG and her decision making is excellent. She never seems to get rattled. She prob needs more PT.

Don’t forget that she is so good at boxing out and getting rebounds! She remind me of a bigger Taber Spani or Alicia Manning!
