I'm glad Dooley looks to be coming back to the state of Alabama for some recruits. This state is one of the most underrated in the nation when it comes to prep talent. Most of Bama's best player (Rolando McClain) are from the state of Alabama and will continue to be.

or Dubose we're talking about. The fact is the kid was previously committed to South Alabama, who just completed their first year of football, so let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here.

Bohannon may be a gem.

No I'm really talking about when we were having great success Fulmer was coming and raiding the state of Alabama. Remember players like: Jason Swain, Tee Martin, Jason Allen, and Aaron Sears. Pretty sure there are a lot more but it seems as if when Saban went to Bama we stopped recruiting the state.

I agree wholeheartedly, LD. The state is full of hidden gems with tons of potential that quite often goes overlooked. Tyrone Prothro, Marquis Maze, Demarcus Ware, Anthony Madison and Darian Stewart are all examples of hidden gems that, for all extents and purposes, almost went overlooked.

I know you were. Fulmer was "raiding the state" during the decade of Dubose-Shula at Bama. It was easy pickins back then. To a great extent, elite Alabama kids wanted no part of that program during that era; see Mobile and the elite kids from that area that went to LSU at the same time. Saban has put a lockdown on AL kids since his arrival...its not a matter of "we stopped recruiting the state". My point is simple: if UT gets kids from the state of AL while Saban is there, it will most-often be someone who is not offered by Bama, i.e. leftover. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't work out, i.e. W. Bohannon.

Even if we only win 1 out of every 10 battles in the state, it will go a LONG way in establishing a presence back in the state. Saban has such a huge 'homefield advantage' because quite often the only schools residents of Alabama are familiar with are Alabama and Auburn. Just getting the orange and white flags seen more often would go a long way. IMO.

I don't think the state is underrated at all. It's right there in the South after Florida and Georgia. I think that's pretty well known. But it is very difficult to pull kids away from both Bama & Auburn. Especially with Saban ruling the roost and excitement on the plains (though it doesn't take much for something there to be considered exciting).

Itwill get interesting really soon in the state. I think UT will have a great shot at some of the better players once the program gets back to winning and on top of the SEC east. Especially with Saban going nationally after so many players. The fact is Alabama has the talent but they all can not go to UA or they do not want to. Auburn is getting the luxury right now of lack of room we have for instate players. Remember L Owens wanted to commit and was told there was no room this year.

What also benefits UT is that as long as UA does well it means Auburn is not and players will look elsewhere. Also CDD has a lot of connections throughout the south and Alabama. It will be real interesting for the 2011 and especially the 2012 classes in the state. Both are suppose to be loaded with talent which I think will really benefit UT. UT always seem to do well in the state and I think CDD will also do well recruiting it.
