Faster and more athletic everywhere. DT biggest question mark but were 13th in rush defense last year so more room to move up than down.

I think they're in Tennessee. Jmo.

Mr Literal

Faster defense and a better secondary.

DT and depth on the line are the biggest are of concern.

Considering USU offensive scheme, I don't think our weakness will be exploited this weekend.

I think athleticism is improved and speed as you look across depth. The depth of line scares me most. Power teams we faired well against last year scare me more this year. I believe we could be gashed up the middle as games wear long by the power run teams. Jmo.

Agree to disagree then.

Same faces atop the depth chart as last season in the secondary except Mosely and Johnson has never wowed anyone with his speed.

Actually you are wrong. Swafford at safety is alot faster than mcneil. Reeves maybin is faster than sapp. All the young guys rotating in will add speed as well. I've also heard the coaches say multiple times how much faster we are on d.

We are significantly faster on the line as well. Replacing Hood, McCullers, J. Smith, C. Miller, M. Walls with Vereen, Maggitt, Hendrix, Barnett, J. Williams moving inside, etc.

Looking at last years under-achieving (or under-talented) bunch just makes me think it can't be any worse. One of the worst DL groups to ever play for UT.

They will make few mistakes early on but they are warp speed faster than last year's squad and that will take away a lot of big plays.

We are better at LB, Secondary and DE positions. DT depth and experience is our main concern.

That's my thing with all these people concerned about the d line. It can't possibly get any worse last year's d line was atrocious.

If we can stop the run, "we gon be gud."

Linebacker play is the key to stopping the power running teams, like "bama, Georgia and South Carolina. Vols should be solid, if not spectacular, against the smash mouth types, because of AJ Johnson.

Speed to the edge is the key against teams like Auburn, Ole Miss and Utah St. If these kids can swarm to the ball and have 2 or 3 defenders in the neighborhood to bracket runners on the edge... the defense will hold it's own.

Athletically, the Vols defense is now in the same league with their SEC counterparts.

These guys just need to focus on swarming to the ball and tackling well. Tackling well means an offense has to run more plays to score. If they make an offense run a lot of plays, penalties and turnovers will kill their drives.

I think we will produce more turnovers just from aggressiveness and speed alone. The key to the season is Maggitt and AJ staying healthy. If they do, we could actuality have a top half of the sec def.

Hopefully the offense can give them some rest as well

I def. think we have an upgraded defence this year. If we can pressure the QB on a regular basis we'll surprise some teams.

We are young and will give up big plays but it will be because of youth, not lack of speed. We are undersized, teams that have a big physical RB will hurt us badly.
