here is what i think which doesn't mean anything but the only game we didn't lose last year that i said we would was memphis. CAL is going to be a close game could go either way, this game is pivitol for fulmer to keep his job. we will lose to florida, lsu, georgia, and south carolina. alabama could give us problems but i have to give us the edge. so 7-4 at best and 5-6 at worst. the first 5 i mentioned except for lsu all have better coaches and it will show when we are on the field. fulmer will play that lame not to lose crap and we will lose games that we should have won. the 5-6 record is if we have QB problems like we did last year. CUT is good but i don't see anything turning EA around and i'm hoping it will fall on crompton to be the man. if crompton starts everygame we could be better than i have said but he has to play good and they have to turn the team loose.

12 games are on the schedule next season, so the Vols will never finish 7-4 or 5-6. Stick this in the bank.... the Vols finish no worse than 8-5.

8-5 after a 5-6 season is unacceptable.

Don't get me wrong, I think 8-5 sucks. I just don't think they will be worse than that. I personally think they'll win 10 or more games next season.

i agree cajun, but i believe if he wins 8 games they will keep him around for another year.
Maybe. If the 5 losses are to UF, UGA, S.Car., LSU, and Bama and we beat some also ran Big12 or Big10 team in the who cares bowl to get to 8-5 then I think there will be enormous pressure to get a new HC. IMO Fulmer has to win 3 of those 5 plus win the rest of the regular season games (including Cal).

smokedog#3,

It should be interesting. My wife seems to think its like a "soap opera" for men.

On the next episode of How the Vols Turn... Can Erik Ainge rebound from the worst passing season since the advent of the forward pass? How many times will television announcers mention that he's the nephew of former Boston Celtic Danny Ainge? Will Cutcliffe be able to find a receiver who can catch the ball? Who would win in a sumo match: Fulmer or Chavis? These questions and more to be answered on the Season Premiere of How the Vols Turn on September 2nd.

I'd pay to see that Sumo match at the halftime of a basketball game.

Here's hoping that we aren't the Susan Lucci of the SEC again next year. :biggrin2:

i think somewhere along the line the point of this thread got lost......just to summarize, the point of my rant at the beginning was to simply point out that TN, while we haven't been up to par the past few years, is still part of the discussion when you talk about the SEC CG. and will continue to be.

No one would be all that suprised if we came out next season and won it would they? really? it migh be a little more suprising than most years given the debacle 05 was, but the kind of program we have here, people will still be circling TN on the schedule, bet on that. Just like most of us still circled Bama during their down years.

And even with this bad season, and a few sub par ones before that, we're still pretty well off, comparitively speaking to some other programs in the league and the country really. Do we need to get better in a hurry, hell yeah. can complacency and apathy be tolerated, hell no. and it is a shame that it took us to get to this point before something happened, but it did, and that's what we're stuck with.

and hopefully, the changes CPF had to make this off season will pay dividends quickly. Or it won't be a debate, and that problem will take care if itself.

Georgia wasn't supposed to be that great this past year. But someone always steps up and exceeds expectations, it was us in '04, hopefully it will be us again in '06.

UGA was supposed to suck in 2002 and 2003 too

Richt is a hell of a coach

As for UT owning Sanford, we are 1-3 at Sanford the last 4 games. Hardly owning

it's all cyclical...we owned them all thru the 90's. they've got a few more years of the type of streak they've had over us to match what we had over them the previous decade. And i just can't see that happening....i think with the losses of D. Greene, and now Shockley, and some of the leaders they had on D the past couple of years, i think UGA will still be good, but not as overpowering as they have been recently....we'll see.....
