The Republican National Committee failed to report more than $7 million in debt to the Federal Election Commission in recent months - a move that made its bottom line appear healthier than it is heading into the midterm elections and that also raises the prospect of a hefty fine.

Looks like they were playing move the dept around game, the RNC Treasurer also accuses Steele of trying to hide the dept.

In a memo to RNC budget committee members, RNC Treasurer Randy Pullen on Tuesday accused Chairman Michael S. Steele and his chief of staff, Michael Leavitt, of trying to conceal the information from him by ordering staff not to communicate with the treasurer - a charge RNC officials deny.

This is just not a simple mistake, it could cost them millions in fines and penalties right before the midterm elections.

I can't figure out why they keep him, he is a terrible chairman. The only reason he was elected was because the RNC felt they had to counter Barry being elected with a black guy.

I supported his election to the post. I thought he would signal a changing of the guard in the Republican party and help get rid of the ones who helped bring it down. But he has maintained the status quo and made the RNC into a mess.

This guy needs to get ousted immediately.

I doubt LG will come in here and call us racists for criticizing Michael Steele's ineptitude since he probably views Steele as an Uncle Tom and a race traitor.

I do not think he had the experience to be a chairman. He did some stuff in Maryland, but was not ready for the national stage. Everything he says and does gets recorded. and scrutinized. He would have been better as a vice-chair and let somebody familiar with fundraising as chairperson.

You guys don't want to admit it, but all of you, deep down where your Joe Sixpack sense dares not go, knows that this is a fabricated story and the brainchild of a TP loser who doesn't know what a corpseman is.

Not at all.

The leadership of the GOP as a party has to deal with the two overall problems that face them: 1) a split between the old guard moderates and business as usual incumbents versus the upstart fiscal conservatives; and 2) lack of any real stars for 2012/16.

Those problems would befall any GOP head, whether he were black, purple, mauve, cintron, or 27 foot tall.

it's borderline Davol territory to call fiscal conservatives upstarts.
