anyone seen any videos?

Yeah, and the first thing you would think watching his film is UNDERRATED. It amazes me that he stayed a two star after Rivals finally got his film here recently. I asked the Rivals southeast analyst why Raines was still ranked a two star and he said it was because Raines didn't play against the toughest of competition and didn't have many offers. He also said that some of the others that had imput in the rankings didn't like him as much as he did, so that held him back. Raines plays for Dalton High School, where Cameron Mayo played, and Bill Mayo has said that we'll be VERY happy with him. After watching his film, I believe Bill. The kid has quicks and looks like a hard nosed football player. Very underrated.

I'm no recruiting guru but I saw him in person and he looked legit to me. Then again I saw the two Mayo's in person too and they didn't impress me and we know what Bill did in college.

WOW!!! All this is excitement for a friggin' 2-Star recruit. We beat out UAB and MTSU! If you believe the 40 yard times on these guys, I have a bridbe in New York to sell. My opinion if you're going to give a scholarhip to a 2-Star give it to a instate player like Patrick Willis (now at Ole Miss) who grew up being a Vol fan!

2004 (Jr.) rush: 12-att 187-yard 15.6-avg rec: 49-cat 912-yard 18-td.6 8-td

2005 (Sr.) rush: 140-att 900-yard 6.4-avg 8-td rec:42-cat 702-yard 16.7-avg 7 -td

another guess is that he didnt play for a strong team and had to split he time btw running and reciever. he really just didnt have a chance to put up the numbers but his numbers look pretty good from the numbers above.

quote from insider.espn: "Evaluation: Raines is an explosive, speedy receiver with big play flair. He is an electrifying player with the ball in his hands. He is one of the few receivers in this class that is a legitimate vertical threat in the passing game. He explodes off the line and can push defenders off of him. He eats ups cushion in a hurry and can run by most defenders. He has adequate size, but lacks bulk and upper body strength, but that will improve soon. He is very smooth in and out of his cuts and has the quickness and acceleration to separate versus tight coverage. For a young player he is a pretty crisp route runner. He excels at taking screens and short routes and turning them into huge plays. When he gets the ball, it's one cut and boom...he could be gone. He has very good hands, plucks on the run and will extend his arms above his head for the high ball. He is equally effective in the slot as well as out wide and has some versatility as a returner as well although he does not have much of a natural feel as a returner. He has all the skills and athleticism to be a very good corner. He is just a fast athlete with a lot of upside at whatever position he ends up playing."

also, i have a subscription to espn insider. They give details about all recruits speed and give a pretty fair evaluation. If anyone has a player they want info on, post the name here.

I hope this guy is indeed underrated. He's only 1 star on scout and 2 star on rivals. If he is underrated then this is quite a steal.

according to espn recruit tracker he was recruited by south carolina, lsu, alabama, georgia, florida, uab, gatech and mtsu. the kid must have some upswing to get that much attention.

why is it recruits are always underrated, but never overrated? ah, because by the time you find out, it's too late and no one ever heard of the kid, cause he never saw the feild. and by that time, no one cares how many stars were beside his name.

the recruiting geeks, and not anyone on this board, but the ones doing the grading etc....while there is some validity to what they do, you never know how a kid is going to do until he gets in to a situation to prove himself one way or another.

I'll never forget the story of how Max Howell, a radio guy out of Atlanta at the time, had a website that covered recruiting and they made up a 4 star Linebacker named LaMarcus Spiker from Garden Lake High School in Augusta, GA. Nevermind that the player nor the school even existed. . . the name showed up on a couple of recruiting services within 24 hours.
