I distinctly remember him blasting Fulmer for running it up against Kentucky with Burney Veasey in the game. Terry Donahue set him straight IIRC.

Well, I also think part of his appeal towards becoming legendary to the fan base had to do with/ came from how so many people listened to him on radio - since it wasn't until recently that pretty much every game was broadcast on television each week - for so many years.


If he were starting his career in modern day - or even if he were early in his career - I wonder if he'd be able to establish himself with the fan base as he did. I'd have to think it'd be more difficult.

John Ward was a legend.Anybody on this board who knows our tradition would agree.I started this thread because I guess I'm not used to this and getting pretty damn tired of it.I remember when we where preseason top 10 every year and a football power.We will get back,I just hope it's in my lifetime.

Did I say anywhere he wasn't a legend?

I don't even think I implied it nor did I say anything like he didn't deserve the place he currently has among vol lore.

I met Steve Levy in the elevator of the Hyatt/Marriott (whatever it was called back in 1999) after he called the opening game of the '99 season. He was friendly, respectful and full of conversation. So, I like the guy. And he's good enough for me as an announcer.
