What a totally tool!!! Why do they let those type of people in this world win games? Dabo said nothing about the Carolina-Clemson rivalry. I see why I hated him so much while at UF.

I used to like this guy,but no more. In fact I had wished at one time he was coaching the Vols. But his true identity is shown, he is a classless POS.
After the Clemson coach had praised Lattimore ,Spurrier insults the coach. I used to think Spurrier's little insults toward Fulmer and UT were "cute". But this guy is crap. Fulmer,Saban,Miles and all the other SEC coaches NEVER put down their rivals. I'm not including Dooley since he put down Vandy last year. Hell,he's not a real coach anyway. It's okay for fans and even players to talk trash, but not the head coach. I personally would rather UT beat SC than 'Bama.

It sounds a lot worse when reading it in an article out of context. I thought it was kind of tacky until I watched the video. He was playing to the crowd. Said this wasn't a memorial service, but rather a celebration.

The bs he was referring to was the 4 minute rant by Dabo last year blasting the university. I like the back and forth. It's entertaining.

I read the comments and thought that it was out of line for the particular time they were said. I don't mind coaches giving jabs at each other and should really expect it out of Spurrier. I kind of feel like this was a wrong time and place for it. JMO.

Spurriers a good dude, but dont cross him, because he has a memory like an elephant. He will not forget. And that relentless competitiveness that won him a heisman, and a national championship is part of his nature. It does not go away.

Yes, he could have said this differently. Many different things he could have said. But if you put it in full context of the moment he was speaking in, and of the rivalry and what has been said and done in the past, he was not very far out of line.

And he did say that he agreed with him.

Good thing Dan Wetzel is always around to be the moral conscience of America. I generally like his stuff, but his threshold for outrage is comically low.

This...and, when Wetzel is not taking jabs at Spurrier and lauding Swinney (who has couched some very vitriolic words against Spurrier in statements that begin with, "I am not going to sling mud"), Wetzel is standing behind Lance Armstrong. Ironically, Wetzel thinks Spurrier is bad for sportsmanship but an actual cheater like Armstrong is just fine...

Spurrier is a lot of things, but you're reaching by calling him a POS. He made a comment at an inappropriate time. I think it was unnecessary, but one of the columnists for The State made an excellent point. Spurrier was basically at a very open Quarterback Club meeting yesterday, and he made a statement to entertain the crowd. That's all it was.

As to Wetzel, his article would be better if it didn't come off as him trying to stand on some moral high-ground and tell others the differences in right and wrong. He stands behind Lance Armstrong, yet he wants to talk about morality to Steve Spurrier. He can kindly shut the fack up.

Besides, let's not forget what got this ball rolling in the first place. Someone asked Dabo last November after we kicked their ass (again) about a comment that Spurrier may or may not have made regarding Clemson (Spurrier didn't make the comment I am referencing). Dabo proceeds to go on a childish rant blasting the University of South Carolina over nothing. Dabo opened this can of worms many months ago.

The problem that Wetzel had was that it was supposed to be Marcus Lattimore Appreciation Day and Spurrier turned the attention to himself like he usually does. It wasn't about Spurrier. It was about Lattimore. Yet, Spurrier has an ego out of this world and couldn't help himself like he usually does. Spurrier loves him some Spurrier. He can be a bitter old coot at times. You'd think a preacher's kid would know better. I guess not.

How did he make it about himself? I am having a hard time with connecting Dabo and Lattimore and arriving at the conclusion that Spurrier made the event about himself.

When he made this comment:

"A lot of quotes came across the country and I read one today from the head coach at our upstate school," Spurrier said at Monday's rally, as if it was beneath him to mention Swinney or Clemson by name. "You know, that school that used to beat us a lot that doesn't beat us much anymore, that one [South Carolina has won the last three games in the series]. Usually when that coach up there talks about South Carolina it's a bunch of garbage and a bunch of BS usually. But I have to agree with him on what he said the other day."

It was pointless. He knew the media would pick up on it and he couldn't help himself get a jab in at Clemson and make it about him. There's a place and time for that and that wasn't the place or time in my opinion. Typical Spurrier though. Raised by a minister. He must be proud.

Come on, man. You are one of my favorite posters on here and I mean this will all due respect, TAKE THE GOGGLES OFF.

Who cares if it was a pep rally they were at. There is a time and place for everything. The week leading up to the game may have been a good time to take a shot against Dabo and CU. I'm sure everybody believes that Dabo was being genuine and honest with his comments, it did not sound like coach talk. I know this because everybody in the country felt terrible for what happened to Lattimore, and everybody is pulling for him and wishes him the best. Spurrier could have answered with class, but instead he chose to embarrass himself.

I have always enjoyed Spurrier's smartazz comments in the past. This time he missed, badly.

Spurrier made an ignorant comment. That in no way, shape, or form means that he was making the event about himself. People are getting worked up about it because he made a comment at this event. Spurrier isn't the type that lets shyt go. You, me, and everyone with a working brain knows this.

Edit: His comment was actually spot-on. It was just ill-timed.

When he made this comment:

"A lot of quotes came across the country and I read one today from the head coach at our upstate school," Spurrier said at Monday's rally, as if it was beneath him to mention Swinney or Clemson by name. I don't dispute that his timing for said comment was terrible, but him saying that doesn't mean he was making the event about himself. Spurrier has an ego, sure, but the event was about Lattimore, not Spurrier. Please believe that.

So an old man with a lifelong reputation for having a smart mouth stood up with a microphone in front of a crowd and said something inappropriate. Dear God. Everyone run to your fainting couch.
