A local sports talk station out of Atlanta - if you can believe anything coming out of Ga - has Spurrier leaving South Carolina after this season. Seems that ole Stevie boy isn't happy in the land of the cocks for various reasons and is looking to bolt after this FB season. If this is true then something must be going on because Spurrier did an outstanding job last year given what he had to work with. I look for the Gamecocks to kick UGA's ass this year and to play UT/Fla real tough. I don't believe he can beat UT or Fla twice in a row with what he has at Carolina but do believe the Cocks will beat the dawgs because they should have kicked Ga's butts in Athens last year. BTW, several UGA friends of mine - one who played FB there - say they don't believe the dawgs will be a top 20 team this year; they point to QB weakness and problems elsewhere and say Ga's very talented RBs can't carry this team through a rugged SEC schedule.

We'll see about all this, as far as USC goes and Spurrier, but it's no secret that he desparately wants big time improvements made to the atheletic facilities, the stadium, and athletic housing on campus....all require big money, that may or may not be available...time will tell. and if his team is apathetic as he says they are, that would just add fuel to the fire.

If I remember correctly, SC is having money issues.

I can immediately think of one SEC school that doesn't have money problems who might be looking for a coach at the end of the season.

would you really, i mean REALLY want that? he's over 60, has nothing to prove, and i don't think there are enough championship type golf courses in E. Tennesse for his liking....

What are you talking about? I was referring to Kentucky. We all know Fulmer is the greatest leader since Alexander the Great and will remain at UT until he ascends to the heavens to take his rightful place among the panteon of deities.

Interesting theory. Spurrier is also from Johnson City.

UT doesn't have $ problems? Actually Stevo could contend for a NC at Tennessee, but not a South Carolina. IMO (which is usually right).

Not a chance in Hell Spurrier is EVER at Tennessee
I would agree. That ship sailed when UT didn't make a change after the '88 season. Majors righted the ship and Spurrier moved on to Florida.

Anyone who thinks this is just flat-out delusional is, well, flat-out delusional.
didn't mean to imply that there weren't ANY in E. TN, just that there weren't enough...when you think about golf courses, E. TN doesn't exactly come to mind.....especially when you think about the golf courses in proximity to Columbia, SC...you've got the SC coast, East GA, Southern NC....and the NC Coast not too far away....he's within a 3 hr drive of Pinehurst, Augusta, Kiawa Island, Hilton Head, Quail Hollow and Isle of Palms.....that's what i was getting at....excuse meeee.

It's pretty clear to me... Hooty gave him a membership to Augusta as part of his signging package. Stevie IS 60 and HAS nothing to prove, so he can retire after this season and play a round at Augusta every morning!

I don't think Spurrier's ego can handle being out of the spotlight completely. I think Spurrier would leave if he thought he could go someswhere else and win a championship, I'm not sure he has the facilities or players to do that at SC.

I thought he liked the SC area, and that was part of the reason he took the job. I guess after seeing the players and facilities he may be second guessing that, and wants to go to a program with more resources.
