Alright guys. I have disliked Steven pearl for a while. However this season has progressively altered my opinion. He seems like the ONLY player that plays hard the entire time he is on the court. Granted he doesn't have many intangibles but he has been one of the... Gulp ... Bright spots on the team. Just wanted to say that I am no longer cheering for pearl to get off the floor!

Unfortunately, playing hard doesn't equate to quality play. If it did, he would be all conference.

There's also games that we would have lost had he not been on the floor (UGA and Vandy). I'm not near as on pins & needles every time he's on the court as I used to be.

At least with SP you know what your getting.Hard work, hustling agitator with limited Offensive Skills unlike With Hopson, Williams & Tatum in which you have no clue if they are gonna show up or just stand around and watch the other team.

Can't disagree. But unfortunately our players who consistently play hard are the least talented players on the roster.

I admire steve. He may not be the most talented, but he plays the hardest and every once in a while makes a big play. I believe he's an important part of our team.

I can appreciate his hustle but lets not exaggerate, he averages 1.2 rebounds and .7 assists per game.

Everything is nice and neat on paper.

The other poster probably thinks he makes these plays more often just because he usually does it in crucial moments.

There are times when he helps spark a run or helps end a run by an opposing team. He isn't going to do it every single game but, he does do it. Overall... he's not very good. He generally plays smart though unless he is getting rejected. Between the poor fast breaks and bad shot selections, he can be a breath of fresh air. At least we don't have to worry about him spotting up and taking a bad shot. Just driving to the basket and getting denied.

and BDH (beating a dead horse): He and Maymon have the same number of rebounds, though he's played 266 minutes to Maymon's 79.

Also, "hustle" doesn't seem to get him into position for help defense, doesn't result in rebounds (as it should), doesn't keep the defense from dropping completely off of him, doesn't prevent him throwing lousy passes, etc.

Man. If you want to point out someone Terrible at passing, let's make a BW thread. Also, even if pearl has played more mins than maymon he doesn't an oz of his talent so it's a moot point.
Pearl plays his hind end off every game , and if we compared how many passes he makes on a game by game basis against how many tos he has it would be a small percent. He passes the ball EVERY time he touches it

Intelligent, non-emotional post. I agree with you fully. The facts are the facts. I am glad SP sparks an occasional run with his effort, however, it is nearly always against an inferior opponent when the rest of the team is just going through the motions.

Add in that the team needs guys that can shoot the rock. They need scorers badly. Much of the time it looks like there are only one or two guys that can create any offense. Williams/Fields should never get near the foul line unless they are shooting foul shots. They should be posting and picking low on the block, getting rebounds, put backs, blocks, and outlet passes. The offense has no plays that lead to 10-15' shots. It's either at the basket or a three - neither of which do they execute very well. The subbing is absolutely insane. A 10 year old could do better. The whole thing is mucked up IMO.

So can we take SP good qualities and merge them into Scotty Hopson's body and produce the team leader and all conference player we thought we had?
