SEC Men's Hoops Players Of The Week > SEC > NEWS
Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes, a 6-foot-8, 250-pound freshman forward from Memphis, was named SEC Player of the Week after averaging 14.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, three blocks and 1.5 steals in wins at LSU and over Vanderbilt. Stokes dominated down low against LSU, scoring a team-high 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting and grabbing seven rebounds. Despite suffering from a high fever late Friday night and into Saturday morning, Stokes put together a gutsy 11-point, 14-rebound effort against Vanderbilt for his second double-double of the season. His five blocks vs. the Commodores were one shy of the single-game school record.

Awesome! I also do not believe 106 temp.

Still surprised that 6 blocks in a single game would be a school record.

The way this kid keeps getting better each and every game, by next fall he is going to be an unstoppable force!

Stokes is a man - hopefully we will get in to the tourney and he will get a chance to be seen on a national stage

can't wait to see him develop over the summer and do some serious domination next year

I have a feeling he's going to have a monster SEC tourney.

He seems to be getting more aggressive and we need that. 10-15 shots a gane for him should be a minimum IMO.

I am 100% positive that I see a noticeable difference in his weight. He's looking more trim. Good for working in the post and rebounding.

Speaking of which, Stokes deserves some recognition for his rebounding. I know Maymon averages more, but when Stokes goes up, it's almost always his ball or nobody's. Seriously, he rebounds with ferocity. One of the few players that gets me excited about rebounding. He's a man!

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can tell he's a little more explosive. A couple of blocks and rebounds he wouldn't have gotten a month ago.

I like how on most of his shot blocks he also comes away with the ball. Some guys swat them into the stands but Stokes seems to just block it straight down in front of himself. Against Vandy, there was one that it looked like he just palmed the ball right off of the shooters hand.

Bill Russel used to do that...I think he said something about it in an interview once. He was talking about how it's stupid to give the other team the ball back on a block, and he always blocked the ball to his own team or himself.

Just for clarity's sake, THIS IS NOT A COMPARISON OF THE TWO PLAYERS. Russel is one of the greatest of all time, and Stoke is a college freshman (high school senior). Your post just reminded me of that interview.

It's sad that you have to justify your post like that.

FWIW, there is nothing about a 106 degree fever alone that requires hospitalization. You can certainly have that high of a fever with a viral infection...I see it quite frequently.

Back to topic: Very excited about Stokes in Orange for the next couple of years...
