Vols forwards Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon are both weighing in at around 270 pounds with less than 10% body fat.

For Jeronne that's basically the same weight and body fat as last year so that's good news, but also probably means time at the 3 isn't likely.

For stokes it tells a bigger story IMO. People were complaining about him being 270lbs last year and saying that was just too heavy. I disagreed and said I actually expected stokes to come in around 270lbs again this year. The difference being that jarnell would tone up and add muscle while lowering his body fat, and that appears to be exactly what he has done.

Our post tandem should be arguably one of the best in the nation IMO, and quite possibly the best in the SEC. Both guys are more than capable of averaging 30+ mpg and double doubles night in and night out IMO, we just have to feed them the ball.

I'd still like to see jarnell grow to 6'10" or 6'11", but I'm very excited that he seems to of added muscle and will most likely be in better shape. Hard to imagine jarnell being stronger than he was last year, can't wait!

I took that as the writer saying that, it wasn't jarnell saying it, but maybe I interpreted it wrong. Most guys usually gain a few pounds after the season starts as well because they aren't doing as much cardio etc etc. So I'd expect stokes around 265 playing weight, either way, glad to hear he has added muscle and is in better shape, very excited for the year to begin.

I always thought guys had a hard time keeping weight on in-season. Between practice and two games a week, there is plenty of cardio, and much less strength training. I would think it would be just the opposite.

From what I've heard from players they don't lose more weight it's usually add a few. During off season you go hard many time 7 days a week multiple times a day with weight vests on and strict diets. Come school time, ad the start of season many of your practices invoke very little cardio and are more scheme and fundamental practices. You rarely use weight vests or put guys through strenuous workouts, the off season is the time for that.

As you said practice 2 days a week, atlesst one of those being scouting schemes and skills. During the offseason you have many weeks with 5 practices which are all cardio and strenuous activities involving weight vests, rarely do you use weight vests during the season.

True, but the cardio work done in the offseason is often offset by the strength conditioning too, such as weight lifting, which is rarely done during the season (at least in terms of looking to add mass).

I'll say this. I'm not 100% sure in either case, but it would seem that you could add or drop weight in the offseason depending on which you were looking to do. During season, with the absence of weight training, it would seem difficult for athletes of this caliber to be adding any significant weight. JMO.

Yea I didn't mean adding any big time weight just 3-5 lbs over the course of the season. That's why my point was even if stokes losing a couple more pounds now by being in Colorado, and gets to 260, it's likely by the time the season starts and after after a few games his playing weight will level off around 265, which he has said he's happy with with his new tone and build.

You can't ask for much more 6'9" 265lbs with less than 10% body fat, that's a big mean S.O.B. let's play some ball!!!

I am happy about this BUT I remember when Brian Williams spent the summer in San Francisco running the hills a losing weight. When the season started, it didn't really translate in to him having a significantly better performance.
I know, Maymon & Stokes have more heart than Williams did.

The offense is going through our post this year, no doubt about that. Also, summer and fall preperations will do wonders for our guys.

Not really sure I agree. I thought Wiliams improved every year he was here. When Chism left, he had to step into that starter role and it took him some time but he became a leader after that.

Jarnell will be bigger and stronger, and our team will be better, but if we STILL don't have the ability to get the ball into Stokes in the paint, we will miss out on being a lot better team.

I just really hope our guards practice entry passes and how to get the ball inside. Seems like it's been a problem for a few years. If this team plays inside out consistently, we could have a really good team.

Apparently Stokes is shrinking.

Listed at 203cm and 111kgs. For those metrically challenged like myself (I had to look it up) that's just under 6'8" and right at 245lbs. Since these are so specific, I would think they measured these kids. I also assume without shoes.

I'm calling major BS on the 245 part, so my guess is they went off the media guide for him that said 6'8" 250lbs. He hasn't been close to 250 since he got to Knoxville.

Probably. Now that I look back at it, it shows the measurements in lbs and feet and they have 6'8" and 250lbs.
