He stated that he model himself after the OBC..... This wouldn't normally be important but TN does play OU this week.

Stoops helped FL win a N/C after FL was blown out by NEB the prior season. Spurrier needed someone to bring toughness to the defense and Stoops was the guy. FL won a N/C the following year.

Just a side note....

Went 2-1 against Stoops.... UT had pretty good teams back then... :)

Stoops also won a N/C ring during his time with the OBC...

I certainly hope he models himself after the OBC, considering Jones has a 100% winning percentage against him.

90's were the good ole days for some teams... :)

Those were the good ole days and the reason why these past few years have been so hard on many of us. The 90's is when I really got into football. I remember when if UT went 10-2, people were kind of disappointed with the season. People my age that grew up in that timespan were spoiled on Vols teams that were very good almost every season. Man what I wouldn't do for a 10-2 season now.

Fail to see why this is important. Of course we did upset the OBC last year.

Stoops and Spurrier have been best friends since they worked together. It's been reported in the past that they call each other up weekly still.

I'd be curious to know whether the OBC ever gives Stoops grief over all his comments re. the SEC...

If you trace Coach Stoops' roots it seems to me that what influence others have had on him is not just centered on one coach or on one stop in his career.

First, his dad was a highly regarded H.S. coach in Ohio so the bloodlines are there. Then, he played college ball @ Iowa under Hayden Fry. Finally, before his relatively brief stint on the Gator staff, he was on Bill Snyder's staff as part of the incredible reclamation of arguably the worst program in the history of major college football.

Stoops is a player's coach while at the same time being a disciplinarian and an innovator. In my opinion, given the circumstances in college football today with the scholarship limitations, he will go down as the best H.C. OU has ever had & that is saying something when you are being compared to the likes of Bennie Owen, Bud Wilkinson, & Barry Switzer. Stoops' record at OU speaks for itself.

I would posit that bringing in a thug like DGB and attempting to obtain immediate eligibility for said thug would somewhat tarnish his reputation as a disciplinarian.

Now children, have some respect for the things that have gone before. That's how we learn, and it separates us from caged monkeys ****ting in their hands and throwing it at the zoo visitors. "Nerd Alert" my azz!
