Guys, if we can just catch fire and win out we're in good shape.

I feel like we have had about 7 different times this year when the staunch Martin defenders thought we had turned it around because of one game against crappy competition, only to watch us throw up on ourselves against a bad team.

The general awfulness of the bubble could still have us in the tourney if we split our last 4 games. I don't believe it but those bubble teams keep losing as well. I think the SEC gets 2 teams in and that's it.

But regardless, I've seen enough (and truth be told, I've had this feeling since middle of 1st year but reinforced last year) and our program will be seriously put behind the 8 ball if we allow this to occur for another year.

Definitely stop.

Perhaps sarcasm is lost in the message...

Let me try this again. No matter what occurs the rest of the year, no matter how crappy the other teams on the bubble are, Zo needs to go. Anyone that argues that our program's future should be predicated on a game between Richmond and Fordham or the like doesn't get it.

I was joking when I said "if this team...."

The fact is, we can still make the tournament.

Then what?

Find another coach. Making the tournament has taken on this mythical standing of a good season. Why? Would anyone looking at this team call a .500 record in the SEC and making the tourney as an 11 seed a good season?

My view of coaching is not predicated on how other bubble teams perform. Do you think Zo's future should be up to St John's winning or losing or Stanford's winning and losing? He's not a good coach. I'm looking at our season. Not other team's seasons.

Disagree.

That game could absolutely determine the future as it may showcase the next coach for the Vols.

That's about the level Hart will end up stooping to to hire a coach. :)

We've been hearing "ifs" for three years running on this team in regards to the NCAA tournament.

Cuonzo has no one to blame but Cuonzo if he gets canned. Nice guy or not, I have zero sympathy for the him.

This team has had numerous opportunities this year to step to the upper tier in a lousy SEC and failed to do it.

Actually, we could do a lot worse than Chris Mooney (Richmond) when we're looking for a coach in a month.

I honestly don't get why this is so hard to understand. The tournament should be a given for this squad, not looked at as some great success

I agree. But firing a coach who makes the tournament, at a school that seems to hang on to coaches too long, is not a given.

Zo should've been fired after this game. Im sure all the players love him and he is a great person but weve vastly underachieved since hes been here. Moving on

Even though a change probably does need to occur, I always love the fringe UT fanbase who think they have the knowledge to size up a coach in the first half of his first year. Congratulations, you probably should be running clinics that great coaches attend, but instead you just post on Volnation. :clapping:

Appreciate it. And congrats in concluding a change "probably" has to occur. You must be wildly successful making definitive decisions.

And I'm not looking for e-cred. It was obvious to anyone that knows the game that our teams were poorly coached in just about every facet of the game. The poor recruiting on top of that made it inevitable that this day was coming quickly.

Your last sentence tells it all. Look at the lack of production we get from our bench. 2 points ( FT's) yesterday is all we got. That is pretty typical for the season. He obviously cannot evaluate talent.

Simple bring Bruce back. This should not even be a question at this point. I hope the administration don't blow this.

Anything short of the Sweet 16 and I say we bring Bruce back.if we don't get to the Sweet 16 and Hart won't bring Bruce back, send Martin to dozens of off-season coaching clinics, make him read "Coaching for Dummies" and give him one more shot.

The problem with winning enough remaining games to make the tournament is that it just might mean we'll be stuck with Cuonzo for another year. That is not a pleasant thought.

With Xavier about to drop out of the rpi top 50, and who knows what Missouri is doing, we could win out, get an rpi in the 40s and make history by being the first major to miss the dance with an rpi in that range since they expanded the field.
Is that a run on sentence?

To be fair, our bench hardly got good offensive touches. Most of the time we are looking for Stokes/McRae, we really don't need our bench to have a big impact offensively. Moore/Reese add extra hustle and rim protection, Antonio Barton is just a sad excuse for a PG. Really never should've been brought here as a PG; he doesn't fit our style of play and is an undersized SG if anything.
