ACC to address issue of court storming - ESPN

Was some discussion about this earlier.

1. Interested SEC is the only conf. with a fine in place.
2. I wonder if this would make headlines if a someone besides coach K was complaining about it?
3. Is anyone aware of an incident where fans stormed the court and somebody from the other either team got injured?

I apologize in advance for "cluttering up the forum with a newbie thread".

Apologize for nothing. Some people on here need to get over themselves. Good post. :hi:

I liked the fact that there were several major upsets this week by home teams (IU/Minn, Fla/Tenn, Mich/PSU, Duke/UVA), and TBA was the only court that was not stormed. We are used to beating top programs.

I know of a local incident between two quad -a teams, heated battle, bitter rivalry. Fans stormed the court, total of 1000 prob, but enough to cause chaos. Kid from local team punches an innocent 50 year old man just running after his 6 y/o boy who was encouraged to storm the court. Dad falls, bangs head off court, seizure, swelling the whole 9 yards.

Kid was charged with simple assault, never recovered, dropped out of d-2 school. Currently in pa sci......happy to report dad has made full recovery.

Sad story i know, yet worthy of thumbs up, you asked

It wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't so dangerous. People can be trampled, players and coaches can be attacked, it just really is too dangerous to be allowed.

Somebody told a story on Mike and Mike this morning about a player tearing his ACL when a fan jumped on his back while storming the court. He was headed for the NBA, but he never got drafted after the injury because it wasn't his first ACL injury.

It was Dan Dakich and it was one of his players.

They had a special segment on sports center and I'm proud that UT wasn't a program they showed on it. It's a "Have you been there?" Thing for me. If a smaller school beats a big basketball school or the first time they beat a top 10 team then I am fine with it. But I take pride in the "Been there, done that" mentality. It should be looked down upon for a Tennessee or FSU to storm the court but not Boise or San Diego.

Great quote! :hi:

Full quote: "... and like you expect to be there again."

My favorite sports aphorism, along with "nothing good ever happens in a club after 1 a.m.". (the time of night varies on that one, lol)

Welcome to the Funny Farm, OP! :)

I can tell you exactly why it will never happen at Thompson-Boling, because Tennessee fans expect Tennessee to beat the number 1 ranked team every time.

Was listening to the Herd today, and Coach and Linda Cone said something along the lines that if Syracuse students storm the court then the University will take their season tickets away. I don't know how true that it is but that is a interesting deterrent.

Not to be mean, but the dude in the wheelchair should have known that wasn't going to end well. CJ Leslie saved him though.

If I remember correctly, some of his friends brought him out onto the court. Obviously, that was a poor decision that could have resulted in disaster.
