By Mike Wilson In Today's Knoxville News Sentinel Sports Section.

The column talks about the trip to Italy and how Coach Barnes loves laughter and his faith and how he has evolved as a coach.

He also wants to take Tennessee to a Final Four and a national championship before his coaching career ends.

If it's going to happen, this might just be the year. If ZZ returns and is his old self, we might have the roster to finally break through. Just need a bit of luck avoiding injuries.

We dont realize how blessed we are to have Barnes.

It'll hit us when he retires and we hire some up and comer no one has ever heard of.
Oh yes we do. After the great Ray Mears(50% wins v UK career) I lived through Devoe, Houston, O'Neal, Green, Buzz, Pearl(easy), Cuonzo, & Tyndale. This man is real easy to appreciate!

Danny White isn't going to do that to us lol. Things are different these days. By the time Barnes is ready to call it a career this is gonna be as attractive a job as it's ever been.

That said, I agree we're totally blessed to have him. Barnes is reason #1 the program has reached this position.

True... Coach Barnes has truly built us into yearly top 25 team. I remember the years we were clinging on to hope as a bubble team by the time March came around. Instead of watching to see if we get in, it's us watching to see where we're going to be playing and what seed we are with no worries on if we'll be Dancing.

Past 5 seasons (not including the season COVID canceled the tourney) 4 seed, 3 seed, 5 seed, 2 seed, and 3 seed. Truly remarkable!

As a Freshman and Sophomore, my motley crew called him Coach Ray or Coach Ray Ray. We made up headlines, e.g. Mears’ Vols Schmear the Cats!

I think his replacement will be from his “tree”. Probably won’t be a splash hire that many will expect. He’ll likely be very involved in the decision.

Barnes deserves a F4 and championship for his great career. So many factors that are uncontrollable make luck a huge factor though. We are very fortunate that he is here and still has the health and motivation necessary. Would love for him to take the Vols where they’ve never been.

It would be fitting for a high character coach like Barnes finish his career in the F4 or more.

He's already raised his hand as a SEC tournament champion which had eluded the program for 4 decades.
