Im all for giving Strong a chance to turn this program around but:

I dont see where he is such a great recruiter. He has never had a top 25 class and is currently ranked 73rd and has 0 4* and 0 5*. Per Rivals

How does he compare to the rest of the Big East?

Did he do a lot of recruiting for USCjr. and UF when he was there? That should give him some contacts in some of our recruiting hotbeds.

Maybe they mean when he was at FL he developed a lot of relationships with HS coaches/programs and has pipeline to recruits in the SEC?

The guy is not young. He is 52 and has been in coaching a long time.

Nobody wants to play in Louisville even under petrino. Tn sells itself to a top 15 class if you don't screw it up. A guy like strong can put It in top ten selling our school. All you have to do is look at his time at Florida when his last class was best defense class in history of recruiting

With a bowl lose, Strong's record his last three years at Louisville will be the same as Fulmer's last three years at TN. 24-15

If he recruits here like he does at louisville. Gonna be another long 3 years

Louisiana Tech recruiting rankings:

2007 - 89th
2008 - 74th
2009 - 76th

If he recruits here like he does at Louisiana Tech, it's gonna be another long 3 years.

Point being, he won't. It's Louisville, guys.

I don't think Dooley was ever able to get over the recruiting hurdle at TN.

Recruiting is a major function of your record and program mojo. Yes, great recruiters can pull some guys but you have to win some big games and build a little momentum. Gruden might have overcome our bad karma but its hard when you are not winning. Don't know which of Strong/gundy is best recruiter, and which could put together best staff--but those are huge factors, and so is having passion for UT.

I do not think we can look at the ranking of Strong's class to ultimately decide if he is a good recruiter or not, obviously from his days as a DC he was well known to be a good recruiter. He is a respected mind in college football and I think Strong excels in his ability to evaluate players and coach them up to their full potential with that being said he is recruiting for Louisville, they have no razzle dazzle to them. He is solely getting players committed to that program because they like him as a coach. If he was to come to Tennessee he would have some of the best facilities in the country, huge recruiting budget, and a program rich in history.

That's like comparing apples to oranges. How did brian kelly recruit at cincinnati? Seems to be doing okay at ND.

Naim Mustafaa a 4* out of GA, committed to GA tweeted earlier, about "Strong to UT would be straight"

I am telling you Strong is gonna be a monster on the recruiting trail. We would finish with a great class with him!

Strong is gonna knock it out of the park recruiting. We all know he can recruit Florida...really the southeast as a whole. But I think we're gonna see a HUGE improvement with in-state recruiting. We got some guys getting out of state we need to keep.

I sure hope so.. It was sickening to see Phillips the QB at Wisconsin light Nebraska up.. He played for Sullivan South which is my old HS ( Dobyns-Bennett) main rival.

Its sickening to see so many players who ive heared grew up wanting to be Vols go elsewhere because UT never even gave them a sniff.
