Perfect opportunity to prove himself to not only all of the doubters, but especially to FL. Also the perfect opportunity to see what he is made of and if he could hang given the right facilities, budget, players, etc. If he really is that great he can take the counter offer from Louisville, build up their program and then when other schools come knocking again, he will have more leverage to work with and get a bigger deal or be a hero for them.

Lots of other factors involved obviously, but that would be enough of a reason as any to stay somewhere if you ask me.

No, he won't be. He will be busy locking up players like Jermaine Grace, James Quick, Jason Hatcher, EJ Levenberry, and Von Bell for us.

If he accepts the UT or any other offer he won't be coaching the Sugar Bowl.

That is my point. If Louisville gives a counter offer, he can accept and stay and still have the opportunity to prove he is a great coach.

If he loses, he better hope it is a close one or he can REALLY start winning some more.

It's a gamble, but people have different motivations.

Had we gone to a bowl game, and still fired Dooley, I think the prospects of the next coach coaching his old team in a bowl game, were likely. But having already let go of a coach before season's end, and our recruiting class in a state of limbo, neither he nor the program can afford the delay.

He needs to get in, get his staff in place (probably won't be able to get all of them until after the bowl games), and hit the recruiting trail before the Dec. 17th deadline (dead period begins).

charlie strong will more than likely finish the season with his kids.

that's the kind of man he is

I respect that, but not sure UT can afford to wait until early Jan for him to hit recruiting trail. That would be a major set back.

I agree to an extent. It has to be tough on him, but really, it puts him behind the 8-ball if he does that. It's a business, and I think he can relay that to the team. It may be a long while before another opportunity comes around like this, for him (where you have a realistic chance at competing for SEC titles, and winning your conference gets you into the NC game).

So, for the sake of himself and his family, he may have to leave the job up to an interim coach. If I were an athlete, it would suck, but if you don't have a coach other teams want, then you probably aren't where you want to be, as a program.

He lost to NC State in the mighty Belk Bowl in 201, 31-24

He also lost the 2004 Peach Bowl to Miami 27-10

I guess you missed where he mislead that 2 star kid that flipped to Louisville this week.

So he will take on the responsibility of another group of kids and leave them hanging for a month while accepting a pile of cash to do spend a little more time with the kids he is blowing off?

Any coach that takes another job while his current team is heading to a bowl game will end up doing a disservice to both teams.

He leaves recruiting in a lurch for the new team after the dead period ends and hurts the current team by not being completely focused on preparations for the game.

I'm pretty sure that will not be his decision to make. If he accepts this job he then answers to a new boss, Dave Hart and I bet he tells him to hit the recruiting trail.
