I love the comments at the bottom of the article. I got whooped with a belt. I only wish it would have been a hand. Stupid study.

I got spanked as a child, a lot, and very hard. I have 2 mental illness problems. But I'm not mad at my mama and daddy. Maybe I should be though.

Total BS.

Wonder where the test population resided and if the test results include a significant diversity of test subjects.

Hmmm... I admit to having mental disorders and I was spanked as a child.... but I don't believe in a corralation(sp?) between the two. I can trace mental disorders through several relatives so I think it more a genetic thing IMO. Personally, I think a lot of kids deserve a good spanking because they've forgotten what it is to respect their parents. The threat of getting spanked taught me to respect my mom and dad and gave me that small touch of fear of the consequences if I didn't show them respect. Sorry, but I don't believe "time outs" accomplish that. Actions should have consequences. You don't let the inmates run the asylum.

Too, in this world of today we blame too much on disorders and try to medicate things that don't need to be medicated. Being that I have mental issues, I'm not trying to downplay their severity, but not everything is attributal to a mental defect. We absolve kids of personal responsibility by saying it's not their fault they act in poor ways and then put medicines in their bodies that may be causing more harm than good. There are no clear-cut boundaries for children to see anymore so it shouldn't be surprising when they cross those lines. Hillary Clinton may believe it takes a village, but my mom and dad were just fine on their own. Not saying assistance is bad, but parents should raise their children and not society.

They were all in timeout and unable to participate in the study.

I grew up with a kid who I believe is mentally challenged because of his rediculously strict mother. She never once hit him. But he would get grounded for something like trying brussel sprouts for the first time and saying he didn't like them.

Problem 1: Being a Mississippi State fan.
Problem 2: Being proud of it.

I'm not sure how spanking can be tied to your issues, Billy.

I'm not buying your average spanking being terrible. I only remember it like 2-3 times. Now getting a beating, that's another story...
