Already hearing we will slaughter them (VT) like we did clemson.
How good will they be next year? And do they stand a chance or will they even play with bammer

If they can get a quarterback that can play as good as JPW, then they are set for next year.

They lose some linemen and wilson. A few off the defensive side of the ball. They may not have as good a season as they did this year, but they'll be talented.

As long as Satan is at the helm of the Tide expect them to be competitive. Last year they played alot of frosh and sophmores and as Goliver said all they need is to find a new QB, perhaps we could send them Crompton.

With Cody returning, they lose only 1 starter off that defense (R. Johnson). Their biggest concern will be on the OL, having to replace 3 starters. They will only get better at QB with time. This will probably be a top 10 matchup, with Bama almost certainly preseason top 3-5. Their running game with Coffee, Ingram back will be tough again.

It's all about players.

Hopefully not too many Bama folks are thinking Bama will walk over VT. That's a recipe for losing. Thankfully Saban & the seniors should keep the players focused.

Bama loses the O & D playcallers - QB Wilson & S Rasheed Johnson. Their seasoned playcalling will be tough to replace; esp. on D. First game of the year is the right time to catch Bama.

QB will likely be either Jr. Greg McElroy or RS Fr. Star Jackson. Neither will have the game management skills of Wilson; at least in 2009. Both IMO could have greater QB skills in reading progressions than Wilson.

OL losses are significant. Caldwell at center and Jr. Andre Smith will go to the NFL. Two TE's graduate. Good talent replaces them... but I'd prefer to start the season with a couple of cupcakes (insert La-Monroe jokes here) while the new starters get their coordination together.

TBD whether Coffee goes pro. Hopefully he'll do whatever he deems best for him & his future. Either way, RB will not be an issue in 2009.

D losses are R. Johnson and Bobby Greenwood at DE. Given the experience returning, I expect the D to be stronger next year.

Overall, Bama projects to be better next year. But we all know these projections mean little until players get the job done on the field. Furthermore, it will likely take a couple of games for the team to be hitting on all cylinders. Not the best time to play a VT.

Bammer fans never cease to amaze me. Over heard a guy today, said "we have only had Saban for 2 years and we already have an undefeated season."

I honestly think we would be saying the same thing if we had just had a season like they did. There would be threads like "Do you think we will beat them by 50+? Vote Yes or No". I can see why they are optimistic. It is way too early for anybody to have a clue about what will happen, but I think it is natural for them to think that. I think what is more discouraging is that many of us are are not as optimistic. Not saying anything about Lane, don't jump on me, just saying they have reasons for optimism based on their team.
