South Bend officials are asking Notre Dame to pay the tab for $16,000 dollars of traffic control for games.

Never mind the fact that South Bend takes in millions from their home games and the taxes alone for that are probably in the neighborhood of 2.6 million dollars per year, the SB officials need to argue over a paltry 16 G.

That's stupidity at a whole new level.

If I were ND I'd be figuring some way of screwing the city.

They deserve it.

If I were ND, I'd place an ad in the area news papers.

"Prominent Notre Dame University planning immenent move of Academic and Sports institutions. All interested townships, burgs, villes and cities please contact the project leader at 555-XXXX. Note: Interested parties must provide land incentives, educated workforce and acceptable traffic control. Financial returns guaranteed every fall. Thank you."

See how long South Bend officials sing the same tune...

I live in New Haven Ct, and we go though this stuff all the time with Yale, it's usually some politician trying to make a name for his or her self by grabbing media exposure, however in this case I could see it backfiring, 16,000 isn't worth fighting about if the public gets behind ND.

Trust me... I know yankees, and I know people from Indiana... They are two VERY different types of people.

Not that it's the same thing, but it reminds me of a screen they used to show at the LSU games on the big screen. It said, On average, LSU spends $25,000 picking up trash from tailgaters after a football game. Aw, poor thing. Letsee. Let's assume that every ticket in the stadium costs a ludicrously cheap $10. That by itself is almost a million a game, assuming a sellout, which almost always happens. And they get their panties in a wad about a lousy 25 grand. Greedy bastards.

I might be out of line? But you have to look at ND as a catholic U.

They have lost the tradition of being a powerhouse U and religion over money really never matters until you ask what conference they'll join.

They'll hold out until forever as far as i care. But fans and scollys $$$$ wont.

I guess the thing that struck me as insane and asinine in this matter was that some warped city father would have the nerve to bring to light a paltry 16 grand in regards to a venue that is bringing in roughly 38 million dollars to the city per year.

What's next; the city charging ND for oxygen?

Oh well, the city must be having revenue problems somewhere. Can't see any other reason why they'd want to leech more money off Notre Dame.

And for the record, I hate South Bend. Few places are less appealing to me.

Even if they're desparate, why kick the golden goose?

It really makes no sense. All I can see they've gained by it is bad press.
