Subject near and dear to my heart. Housing threatens civil war sites

It's eventually going to happen to all of them. Just accept it and buy the poorly built condo that sits on them.

You know, I used to have a shred of respect for you..........not that much, but some never the less.

Yeah I know, if you had feelings that would probably hurt.

If you can't beat them, join them. Seriously, wouldn't you like to wake up in the morning, fix some coffee and sit on your balcony overlooking the old civil war battlefield?

1.) So you want to live in a cemetery?

2.) How come a Historical Society in any major urban area can keep a dilapidated old houses from being destroyed and yet we cannot preserve our battlefields?

I don't know, I'm against that too. Knock them down and give me a Circuit City close to home. :whistling:

And no, I wouldn't like to live in a cemetery, that's why I said you should do it.

I know in Franklin the city recently acquired a now defunct country club near Carnton Mansion, which will be converted to a park with some CW aspects. Just up the street from where I now sit drinking coffee, a preservation group purchased the peak of Shy's Hill, which is generally beleived to be the final breakwater for the Army of Tennessee during the Battle of Nashville. I have also heard that when the Sounds' new ballpark opens downtown, the site of Greer Stadium might be converted for use in tandem with neighboring Ft. Negly. Basically, preservation is happening in some urban areas.

I understand your frustration OE, but this is World History 101. If you have ever had an archeology class this is what happens in civilizations. 1000 years from now an archeologist will find the Circuit City then they will dig a little deeper and find all the bones buried beneath. Then they will struggle with how all of those people were killed by listening to Hip Hop music at alarming volume levels.

This is an issue here in GA. Developers hold greater power than historians. Lands that are historic but not protected are being bulldozed daily. The March to the Sea is now paved with lit streets and sidewalks and filled with quaint little houses all over the place.

Actually the building that houses my office sits sqaure on the center of the Battle of Peachtree Creek.

Some how, some way, you always make my day brighter.

I was kind of holding off on raising this issue, but if we were talking about a field with a few Indian bones laying under the soil instead of a CW battlefield there would be government intervention.

OE there is not much you can do about it they call it progress whether it is or not. I could honestly see one day the great battlefields of Gettysburg, Chicamagua, Shiloh etc. being about 30 acres each with a nice museum to show people how they once looked.

I am growing very frustrated with Virginia.

Pretty soon there will be no Wilderness, Chancellorsville or Spotsylvania Court House.

Of course who am I kidding, the Peninsula has already been taken over by "progress".

You should've held off Hillbilly.. They decimated two infamous indian mounds to build a neighborhood(in Middle Tennessee) a few years ago. Instead of seeing a precious historical site, I now see an infested subdivision full of spoiled kids who can't appreciate any sense of moral values..

If you're talking about Moore's Lane in the vicintity of Boiling Springs mound, those were already excavated in the 1930s. I think some of the stuff is in the state museum now. Meadow Lake in downtown B-wood was supposedly a massive Indian artifact site, but that was mostly developed before or near the time I was born. There are also some box graves south of the soccer fields at the Y on Concord Rd. I was living in that area when they built the Y and I remember construction being held up for awhile over the issue. They had people out there doing chants and dances around the graves.

Who is the supreme defender of cornholing rights? And how am I trolling since I've actually discussed the topic at hand.

Try to follow the topic at hand and what people say. I'd also like to get a clarification on your namecalling...
