I can tell you at this point it seems like a lot are going to Cal. Summer League which is a real bummer, a few to the Coastal, ABL didn’t have rosters up and for the most part the Cape Cod doesn’t either.

We (Forest City Owls) have four Vols, the maximum allowed 😀 We’ve already announced Kirby and Shawn Scott. I think we’re the closest summer collegiate team to Knoxville, so come on by. If I’m there, your first beverage is on me. My Twitter DM is open.

I’ve been announcing guys on our roster for a couple of weeks. I do it five days a week and will tweet or retweet good news on future or past Owls. @ForestCityOwls on Twitter and we’re also on Facebook and Instagram.

Keep in mind the old NY-Penn league is now the MLB Draft League, for current draft eligible players, and the Appalachian League is now a wood bat college league. I'm sure it will have some effect on returning college summer leagues.

I want to see what the Appy League can get for players in their first year.

Here you go: Accepted Players | Appalachian League I don’t know if the list includes the high school seniors that are playing or if they are listed with the colleges they signed with. I don’t keep up with high school prospects like others do on the recruiting thread.

Thanks for the update... the Coastal...that's the Macon Bacon and Savannah Bananas...was talking to employees from both and they talked about how the community comes together to take in players...would be neat to live in that area and host a Vol...guy from Macon said they feel they are getting just as good of players now that used to go to the Cape Cod league Host Families - Macon Bacon Baseball

They have obviously made some changes over in the Coastal, they always have a good crop, but The Cape Cod, it’s kinda the pinnacle, I don’t see that changing with MLB scouts or College coaches anytime soon.

Yes, the Cape is the best. I like our former guys from Tennessee and other schools playing there.

We have host families as well. One Tennessee alum host family in Forest City generally hosts Vols. Our hosts call them their "summer sons." Real bonds are made. The UT host family travels to Tennessee games- I'll see photos of them together with their summer sons at LNS after a game. Others will go to see games at Clemson, App State and other close by schools.

I think eliminating all those affiliated teams across the country is not the way to grow the sport. I too will miss seeing teams like the E Twins and the Johnson City Cardinals.
Twin were my team. And those parks are iconic Americana.

The whole MiLB realignment has made me dislike MLB even more.

It’s changing this year. Cape league is in doubt when it comes to Covid protocols, meaning coaches aren’t excited about sending their best prospects to a place where they may get to play and they may not. Expect a lot more blue chippers playing elsewhere this summer.

Starts June 20, 40 game schedule and last time I checked the available rosters there were plenty of SEC players headed there. Your point is well taken though.

Yeah, nothing negative here. Just pointing out that this fall/winter when players were being placed on rosters that some coaches were hesitant about sending guys there. The schedule wasn’t posted and it was still up in the air as to how many games would actually be played in the Cape. I don’t know if we have guys going there or not. I hope they aren’t because I could easily see a spike in cases causing a huge overreaction in that liberal state and baseball being shuttered again.

Looking over the roster, we only have a couple freshmen and Sophomores that seem ready for the cape, Tidwell, Big Mac, Kirby...sure I’m leaving out some, Rucker maybe... and the juniors, not really sure, but I am a little behind on things this year. I am quite sure if I am off, someone more attuned will point it out.

I don’t have to tell you this, but it’s fluid, COVID only makes it more so. There’s always Northwoods and the Ripken... I try to leave politics out of it most of the time. 😀

I had such a fun time playing summer ball in Virginia. Practice or play during the day and live life as a college student taking no classes at night. Days off we'd rent canoes and went bass fishing.

Our team's coach owned a used car dealership and we could wash cars for extra money. He'd also let us borrow a vehicle occasionally if needed. Looking back, probably one of the best summers I've ever had. Really good baseball competition as well.
