The Summitt Hoops 2018 WNBA Mock Draft (Summitt Hoops.com) projects that Russell will not be drafted until the 2nd round at number 15 by Seattle. McCowan is listed as a 1st rounder at number 5 and Nared at number 11 by LA.

Originally at the beginning of the year, Russell was listed as a 1st rounder. The drop in status has to be for her lack of physicality, aggression and hustle up and down the court. I believe that her shooting ability makes her a good draft pick. I believe with proper coaching she has a chance of doing well at the next level. Pro teams want their post to be aggressive, tough and have the ability to rule the glass on both ends of the court.

I hope Russell reads this Mock Draft and decides to show everyone she can be both physical and aggressive. If she did that her stock would go up greatly.

Mystics will be missing Emma Messaman for the season so she might go to them like originally drafted because they will need height. Unless they get a big through free agency.

You know that is what I am hoping for! Having her back up Krystal Thomas the first year and possibly starting her second year in the league on my favorite WNBA would be awesome.

Coach Thibault is also looking for post help so if she slides to that pick there is no way he does not select her (unless Stevens does in fact come out and is there at 7)

I think we will see a much different Russell once she is in the pros. I would draft her and do what the Mercury did for Griner, get Jabar to work with her. I believe with the proper coaching and the encouragement to play a more physical game, Russell could be a steal.

I'm a big Mercedes Russell fan, she will go in the top 10, no way will she slide to the 2nd round. Go Lady Vols...

Big Picture, When playing against a man to man defense, I think Russell is one of the best offensive centers for the draft this year as far as options. In the WNBA, teams don't play zone, you see man to man. You think of some of the best teams in the WNBA and they have good interior players. (Phoenix, Sparks, Lynx, Liberty). There are teams in the draft that will benefit from Russell, especially in the first round. Will she come in being a starter? Probably not. But will she be productive in a wnba offense? Absolutely.
