I've read that the decision on which teams host the 8 super regionals is made after this weekend. By any measure, Tennessee is a top 8 team. So is that locked up? When are those announced?

My understanding is they will select 20 this week that will host regional and supers. Then the super regional hosts will be selected from regional hosts and a team may host a super even if they are not in it but that would only happen if both regional hosts lose. You would think if one wins they would hosts even if the other team is a higher seed. The other condition is that you have this week to get your stadium ready fully confirmed with all the NCAA Covid provisions and seating requirements. Does anybody know if we have brought any new stands in for the right field line?

I am just guessing here, but Vandy is ranked higher and has a nicer baseball stadium than UT (not sure if the stadium matters). Plus two regional and Super regional games in the same state if both TN and Vandy got one, I don't think so. I just think that if the state of TN only gets 1 super regional then it would be in Nashville not Knoxville.

Then again it is the NCAA making the choices so............

I agree the NCAA would normally cringe about multiple region sites in the same state. However, I believe they will be more hesitant with Texas possibly having 3 than Tennessee just having 2.

It also helps that Florida- which normally gets 2-3 regions and 1-2 supers will be lucky to get 1.

Regions:
Texas 2-3 (Texas, TTU, TCU)
Tennessee 2 (Tennessee, Vanderbilt)
Mississippi 1-2 (OM , MSU, Hell! Hattiesburg could be a dark horse for #3)
North Carolina 0-2 (Charlotte, ECU)

My main concern, is the NCAA may let this unusual season be an excuse to gift regions to non-traditional sites. Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Nebraska. HOWEVER- not to get political here; those non-traditional northern climes tend to be in Democratic-still locked-down cities with massive attendance restrictions. The NCAA has already announced that attendance will be restricted to 50% capacity. This may give them the cover to ship some southern and western teams to some really $hitty stadiums in the upper midwest and northeast.

My thoughts; they will not play games with national seeds as they will host no matter what. There may be a few hosts in regional play that will be #2 or even #3 seeds in regions they host.

I hope Charlotte or ECU get a host bid because I do not want either team in Knoxville. If either hosts, the other will be the #2 seed.

As they stand now. IMHO:

1. Arkansas 16. Louisiana Tech
2. Vanderbilt 15. Ole Miss
3. Mississippi State 14. Louisville
4. Tennessee 13. Notre Dame
5. Texas 12. Arizona
6. TCU 11. Stanford
7. Texas Tech 10. Oregon
8. Florida 9. East Carolina

with the way the SEC is VERY top heavy, it will be impossible for committee to pair the SEC teams off against each other in Super Regionals. I suspect Ole Miss will take one in the pants and have to play one of the others.

I understand your logic but no way NCAA does this. They will guarantee that Notre Dame has a fighting chance to get to CWS and at least 1 team out west. They will not have 2 conferences host every Super Regional and a chance that only 2 conferences are playing in CWS. They will put the SEC against one or more of the Texas teams and try their best to get an ACC and Pac 12 team in the CWS.

This is just my opinion based on how things stand now.

Because Arkansas plays @ Tennessee and hosts Florida to close season; then those three teams will see a lot of change. I doubt all three can be national seeds with that many losses to toss around. If Arkansas, loses the last 2 series (except sweep) I think they'll still be a seeded team. Florida could lose any hosting opportunities if they lose both series.

1. Arkansas @tennessee, Florida (80%) - my odds
2. Vanderbilt @Ole Miss, Kentucky (85%)
3. Mississippi State Missouri, @ Alabama (92%)
4. Tennessee Arkansas, @SC (55%)
5. Texas Off, WVU (75%)
6. TCU ULM, K State (75&)
7. Texas Tech @Oklahoma, Kansas (70%)
8. Florida Georgia, @Arkansas (30%)

Outside looking in

Notre Dame Off, @VaTech, Tourney (70%- They will be wedged in if the NCAA has ANY choice)
Arizona Washington, @Ore State, Dixie State (WTF?!?)
Stanford @Cal. @Oregon, Ore State
East Carolina @Cincinnati, @USF Tourney
Charlotte @Rice, UNCW, Tourney
Louisville @UNC, Miami, Tourney
South Carolina @Clemson (Tues), @kentucky, Tennessee

It could be the BVS in me, but I am fully expecting to get screwed and to be on the outside looking in. Are we one of the 8 best teams in CBB this year? Without a doubt. Will we host a Super Regional? Less confident. With all the funky COVID-19 protocol excuses, as others have said, this is setting up for the perfect excuse for the NCAA to keep 4 SEC schools from being host sites. I'm just not confident the NCAA will make the decision based on merit.

The ONLY way I see to guarantee ourselves a Super is to take the series from Arky. If you do that, I think we're a lock. If we lose the series, I can see the NCAA lining up the excuses already.

Latest info. FWIW, Rodgers believes 4 SEC teams are locks to host barring some catastrophic melt down by one of those teams not named Arkansas. Nothing has changed after the sweep of Missouri, we just stood Pat at what I believe is the #7. He also thinks Arkansas wins the series in Knoxville.

If, and this is a big if...we could manage to win the midweek, win the series with Arky and Vandy loses the series in Oxford, I wonder if that would be enough to swap places with Vandy? I think there is a chance that we could making us the third SEC team rather than the fourth, which is where we are currently in my view.

Again, those are both Big, Big, IF’s...

I do not agree with Rogers’ take on 4 SEC teams and 2 Texas teams, it’s just not a big enough footprint for a national Tournament. ND is a lock, there’s 7 teams, maybe Arizona...

I just don’t think the Committee will do it, but I could be wrong, I hope I am.

Beat Tech.

6-2 of our 8 remaining games is our path to victory. If we go 5-3 we're on the bubble. If we go 4-4 we're likely out of the top 8.

I think it's that simple.

I’m putting this here, really belongs in this weekends game thread, but there’s some stuff in this interview with Burke that covers more than just the preview of Arkansas.

For the first time we have a guy, besides me, saying UT baseball can pay for itself. Anyway...

RTI Podcast: Chris Burke, Talking Tennessee And SEC Baseball | Rocky Top Insider

I’m going to watch this when I get home, but I was going to post earlier that I think circumstances have changed and UT baseball could have good support.

Obviously I have been away from the state for a very long time so I don’t have my pulse on the situation, but Vol fans are hungry for a winner. Weekday games and ‘preseason’ series may not draw well, but SEC weekends could be huge.

Cheesy but, build it and they will come.

They probably go with the team that wins their division and maybe the SEC outright. Vandy’s stadium is bottom 4 along with TN in the SEC so that won’t be a factor.

Vandy stadium definitely won’t be a factor. Have to use the football stadium bathrooms and concession, limited seating, no parking. It’s awful.
