Surprised Neyland Stadium Not On This List

Jesus Christ when will enough be enough when it comes to mentioning Clemson in the same breath as any blue blood program? They had a good run, even if it was only due to other programs having down years. It was obviously a flash in the pan and it’s time we recognize them for what they are: a historically sub standard program that is riding off recent success to gain national relevance. They have no long and storied history. No deep traditions. Even Vanderbilt has more historical significance than they do. It’s a travesty that Neyland and, as much as I hate to say it, Bryant Denny isn’t on this list.

Congress has no business getting into this. You have homeless people all over the country and they are focusing on college football stadiums?
All of this and so much more. Not to mention these useless caucus ideas cost money we actually don't have as a country.

This has zero constitutional basis. If Congress would kindly stick to their outlined job, we, the people would appreciate it.

Why would Bryant Denny be on it? It’s not historic. Bama played its big games in Legion Field until around 1999.

I'm actually pleased that Neyland's not on this list.

A couple of congressmen (from Louisiana and Wisconsin) who are probably real buds, eat lunch together when they can, go to each other's campaign rallies, that sort of friendship, they came up with this bipartisan but vaguely socialist idea (let's have the government spend taxpayer money on even more non-essential things, eh?), then shopped it around for support. Those who signed on got their home-state stadium added to the list.

So apparently when these fellas went knocking on Tennessee representatives' doors, they were told to pound sand. Result: no Neyland on the list.

Our congressional delegation did good turning them away.

Go Vols!

They have been good lately and got a boost when Kiffin rejected QB1 Tajh Boyd then they stole a number of what normally would have been Vol recruits. They ran with it and a down FSU and a weak top to bottom ACC. I remember as a kid going to watch UT play (didn't get to go to many) Clemson and being mad because we were playing a nobody OOC team.
So I agree with this although they do go way back historically bad for a quarter of Century from 1949 to 1976 they just won 7 games one year had some 0 wins and some 2 & 8 loss season sprinkled in. Definingly worse than our 15 years in the wilderness we did win 9 games even with Butch during that time span. and even won 8 with Cornbread in 2019. GBO
I googled Tennessee record 2019 to see if google vacates it off their history it still shows all those as wins. So as I said on another thread Vacating wins for punishment is a nothing burger last a news cycle for those listening everyone there knows who won and is etched in their memory. GBO

Some would make the case that we kinda had similar fortunes with out of state recruiting giving us a "nice run". We caught fire in the 90s when UGA and the carolinas were down and cleaned up their states best recruits. Allowed us to go on a historic run. Once the tide turned in those states and we couldn't cherry pick anymore, our fortunes took a rather large turn. I'm not saying we're no better than clemson as a program. Historically, that can't be argued, but they took advantage of a situation much like we did in the 90s. They may slip back into mediocrity once they join the SEC, but I wouldn't write them off just yet....much like I wouldn't annoint Heupel as the second coming of Spurrier. Let's see how thing pan out over the next few years. Personally, I'm guarded but hopeful.

Let's take off the pantone 151 colored glasses for a moment. Clemson is 14th in wins all time, Vanderbilt is 62nd. We are tied for 10th. Yes, we continue to lead them by 78 games (67 if you vacate the Pruitt wins, which I am not until we lose our appeal), but it's not like they are trash historically. They have 3 national championships in the last 50 years, we have 1. Thus living people outside of our fanbase are going to see them as a traditional power. It just is what it is in that regard. Let's beat them some more.

Anyway, I'd imagine some of the stadiums ended up on this list because they are in danger from developers. Ain't nobody knocking Neyland or Bryant-Denny stadium down.

Wrong. Yes they have more NCs in the last 50 yrs than we do. But over those 50 yrs, whats their strength of schedule compared to UT? They also have the easiest path to the NC compared to anyone else. Im not taking away from any of their accomplishments, but Having a great 5-7 yr run in an absolute garbage conference does not make them a traditional power.

I bet members of congress that are on this committee all had at least one school from their state on this list. Now they can tell their constituents how they are helping them out.

No Notre Dame??? I guess no committee members are from Indiana.

You don't win national championships in the BCS or especially the CFP era without beating good teams, generally in the CFP era you have to beat 2, so whatever arguments you want to make about strength of schedule, Clemson beat good teams to win their trophies. They are 431-190-8 the last 51 years (which is how long the sport has been fully integrated). That's the 9th most wins in that time period.

Even if you look at the entire AP era (since 1936) they are 13th in wins (we have 32 more total wins over that time period), so it's proposterous to equate them with Vanderbilt as the previous poster did (who has the 104th most wins of the AP poll era). We are ahead of them, but they aren't THAT far behind us. As I said above, the reason Neyland Stadium is not on this list is likely because it is in 0% danger of ever being torn down to make room for condos or to be replaced with Preparation H Stadium.

Here’s an idea Congress; stop spending our money (tax payers) on crap like this (and tons of other crap) and give it back to the people (tax cuts) so we can actually afford to go to a game (and maybe a beer) in our historic stadiums.
