Syracuse, our orange brother to the North is having their greatest season since 1998 as well

I could see Ole Miss,Alabama or Tennessee playing Syracuse in the Orange Bowl.

Possible. We could be a dark horse for the playoff. I think we may need to beat Georgia and not lose any of the games we are favored in. I don't think we need to win in Atlanta, just not get blown out. However, win in Atlanta and we are definitely in and ranked #1.

If we lose to Georgia and go 11-1, we are still in the picture but I think we need to have some help.

In what world does a 6-0 Tennessee team fresh off beating #3 Bama and ending a 15 year losing streak fall into the “dark horse” category?

Hey it could be worse. Clemson could have Ohio State or Michigan’s cupcake schedule

Yeah, B1G is really bad this year with Michigan State and Wisconsin collapsing. Michigan and Ohio State are great but no one else in that league looks that good; they may have Illinois and Purdue. Penn State didn't look like a top 10 team Saturday.

What's more interesting to me is that UCLA is in the top 10. They've had a weirdly similar path to us. They were one of the best teams in the nation in 1998. They were in the national title picture that year until they lost a make-up game against Miami 49-45 in the last week of the season.

They fell off a cliff after that. They had one good year under Karl Dorrell in 2005. They then sucked for like 7 years before Jim Mora came along, had 2 good seasons in 2013 and 2014 (similar to Butch's two good seasons), and then collapsed again. Finally under Chip Kelly they showed improvement in 2021 and now they are great in 2022.

Difference is we were playing top 10 teams lol. If our schedule wasn’t so tough the past 15 years we would’ve had a lot more success

As if another parallel with 98 wasn't needed. Michigan previous year in 97 broke a national championship drought since 1948 we followed that up with ending championship drought in 1998 from 1951. Well last year had its best season in forever and made playoff breaking a long streak against Ohio st. Well here we come the next season and snap a huge losing streak to Bama and are clearly on our path to best season since definitely 2001 but perhaps 98. 😃
