I think Tayven learned a little bit of humility at UT. He was the understudy to two studs and was obviously frustrated he saw no playing time, so nice to see him take the high road after his departure. In fact, I will keep an eye on Indiana next Fall and wish him all the best. If he utilizes all he learned, he should lead IU to a winning season.
Dude is just pure class. Never made noise about not playing but transferred out peacefully and graciously. Nothing but good roads ahead of him. Consider me a fan.
Nobody is going to be able to keep 3 quality QBs anymore. Jackson would have been a starter on several SEC teams this year. He was ok red shirting as a freshman but like any competitor, he wants to play and the idea of being a backup for a second season just isn’t gonna fly when you can transfer and be competing to start.
I wish him good luck at IU and hope we have an injury free season with our QBs.
I just really think this kid did himself a disservice by transferring. I get it, dont fault him. I think he is underrated as frick, and gonna be really good.
It is true for us this year. Because Nico arrived.
But it wasn't true for us last year. Hendon, Joe, and Tayven all felt comfortable with their future chances in 2022.
Nico is what changed Tayven's calculations.
So I think it always comes down to competition and opportunity. Consider this hypothetical: two years from now, Nico is a junior. He is the undisputed starter. But we also have a very talented sophomore and an equally talented freshman. They know Nico might very well go pro at the end of his junior season. They both believe they can compete for and win the spot after him.
Voila. Three QBs.
It comes down to the perceived opportunity to become the starter. You can hold three, maybe even four QBs on scholarship under certain conditions, as long as they each believe they have a good shot at being the starter soon.
So, who else sees TJ beating UM or Osu in the next two years. It would seem like a Brandon Stewart 1998 scenario. Go ahead and Google what I’m talking about.
Question: IF the coaches wanted to add a third QB transfer wouldn’t it make the most sense as of now to wait till after spring ball? Seems there’s bound to be a few great QB starting battles with odd men out?
This says a lot about CJH, the players he is recruiting and how he runs a program. I hope Jackson succeeds at Indiana. We finally have a coach that teaches every day, develops players and expects excellence. Go Vols.
I'll definitely be an Indiana fan the next few seasons.
This kid is a class act, and if it weren't for the unique situation in Knoxville would get to show out.
The B10 will have to watch out, if theis guy has a decent Oline and a couple of receivers, he's going to be very successful at Indiana.
All the luck in the world to him.

I think he probably comes from a good family. His dad is a police chief and his brother is a star basketball player at Indiana but I haven’t heard anything negative about him.
Good luck to Tayven.
