Taggart out at FSU

College Football Vault (came up on my Facebook, who knows how reliable they are) says per ESPN, FSU is apparently in negotiations with our old pal Mike Leach.

I had not even considered that but it makes a ton of sense.
I see Franklin's name popping up all the time in regards to these big openings, or potential openings...Is there something I'm missing, is Penn State not an elite "destination" job?...Or is it something else, like a bad relationship with the administration.

I'm wondering the same thing. Penn State is a good gig. Pretty good amount of in-state talent, not crazy expectations, lots of resources. He'd be crazy to leave that IMO.

Good when he calls them fat and lazy, can’t beat Clemson and doesent meet expectations ever. The truth will be crystal clear...

Penn State is a play off contender this year. Trust me, they will pony up to keep Franklin if it comes to it. But I don’t think they would have to. He’d be crazy to leave Penn State for the current dumpster fire that is FSU

Not sure he'd beat Clemson (but other than Bama, who does?) but they could do worse. Especially if he can (and I'm sure he would with FSU's resources) get a solid DC.

At this point in his career, I think Franklin wants to get to the final four. He has an easier path / more athletes at FSU than at PSU.

I really don't think Urban is going to USC. I think given two things: First, USC has had a bunch of problems with legal issues lately, (see USC's enrollment scandal), Second, Urban has a bit of a history with troubles following him. I just don't think USC will take the risk, they already have plenty of PR issues.

I think USC gets James Franklin in my honest opinion.

I was ignoring FSU and Oregon when Taggart was hired, and so as he failed at FSU I began to wonder how Oregon fans felt about his hiring and leaving, both. I think of Oregon as a pretty important job and coaching 1 year at any school is just strange. In hindsight, of course they're glad. We weren't. When Kiffin collapsed, we still wanted him back. I'm very sure they don't. Here's one article about Oregon's perspective on his failure.

Sure, coaches who don't already have high buyouts. That's the problem. Any random coordinator or lower-level coach would jump at the job, but it's going to be tough to get a top-tier coach concerned with winning to go into a situation where the directive is "WIN IN 2 YEARS OR ELSE?!" This is especially true since it's not exactly like said coach would be inheriting a championship team.

He didn’t get fired because they aren’t winning alone.

He got fired because after going to a bowl for 36 seasons straight, they are going to miss a bowl game twice. But, beyond that, they’re embarrassing.

They will do things in games consistently like the following:

They will give up 19 yards on 3rd and 16, make a tackle, and get a 15 yard penalty for talking smack after making the tackle when the other team picked up the first down. They’ll get a celebration penalty after scoring a touchdown to cut the other team’s lead down to 17. They do this kind of crap consistently.

FSU did the math. Based on ticket sales and everything else, firing him is actually the financial move that makes the most sense

I think FSU will finish 6-6 and go to the Quick Lane Bowl.

FSU is 16th in recruiting rankings with about half of the class being 4 star recruits. Was UT in the hunt for any of them? I hope we can take advantage of this opportunity.
There are probably a couple. But I am hoping that other schools eat their class up and drop some of the guys we are going after.

There was one LB from out west that had UT and FSU as his favorites. But after our start we slipped a good bit. So maybe we get back in it.
