Taggart out at FSU

Is it wrong that if Bob Stoops goes to FSU I’m going to be pissed? Almost take it personally? Don’t get me wrong, I’m liking where we are headed as a program, but if FSU can go and raise $20 million and then hire Bob Stoops in the next week it makes wonder what the hell we are doing in KTown? I understand that there are a ton of factors that come in to play, but it just blows my mind it could be that simple for the Noles and we have continually got in our own way for over a decade now.

Edit: I had no idea @hog88 had written what he wrote as i posted .
There's no way they are hiring Bob Stoops, but the fact that they were able to make some calls and get $20m raised for a buyout to speak to a level of competence and organization that Tennessee obviously does not have.

It's all about the administrations commitment to winning, FSU is committed to winning ours hasn't been.
I think that's a bit of a misnomer. Our admin and boosters all want to win, but they want that winning to occur on their specific terms. In other words, each individual/faction wants the winning to come from their great idea, not anybody else's, and they never get on the same page.

An administration that was ambivalent or simply didn't care about winning would be a bigger problem than the one we actually have.

True statement.

FSU was supposedly hemorrhaging money prior to the beginning of the season.

Three months later, staring another losing season in the face, the big money donors made it rain.

If you aren't committed to something, then you don't truly want to do it. Perhaps a better way of putting it is that they want to win, but they care more about themselves getting credit for winning than actually winning. If the admin and boosters didn't care about winning, they'd be much more nonchalant about the program. They'd have let Dooley stay longer, let Butch stay longer, etc.

@Nerwen Aldarion is right - our biggest problem is that we have donors (it isn't just the Haslams) who all want to be the General Manager of the football program. They desperately want to win, but what they actually want more is winning because their idea and not someone else's idea was implemented.

Florida State’s coaching search was barely 24 hours old when the social media rumors began to approach Gruden-to-Tennessee levels of hysteria.
Instead of Grumors, we have Bob Stoops to Florida State speculation (Stoopsulation? I don’t know, I’m still workshopping it).

Matt Barker....Tampa Bay Times
Kinda funny

Matt Campbell
Mark Stoops
Mike Norvell

Gotta think FSU’s coach comes from that pool. FSU’s donor base doesn’t have as much money as other blue bloods; and the facilities are god awful. I don’t see Stoops, Meyer, or Franklin taking that job.
Norvell would be a home run as long as he hires a real good defensive coach. That would be a contract priority.

I could see FSU potentially hiring these coaches for their vacant head football coaching job

Dave Clawson Wake Forest head football coach
Hugh Freeze Liberty head football coach
Matt Campbell Iowa State head football coach
PJ Fleck Minnesota head football coach
Mike Norvell Memphis head football coach
You just trotted these out from the list of those UT was trying to hire 2 years ago (sorry, Schiano appears to be off the table). FSU will attempt to hire someone who can win a championship.

I think Minnesota might end up regretting that. They are being prisoners of the moment (plus afraid he'll bolt to FSU), and they have played precisely nobody this year, which changes starting this weekend.

Can't imagine it will matter. If he gets them to 8-10 wins a season, which he can do in the B1G, then he will be a god

I don't think he can do that consistently. Minnesota in a good year for them is like the 7th or 8th best program in that conference. The pecking order in their own division is Wisconsin, Iowa, then you can argue Minnesota/Nebraska/Northwestern (in any given season either of those 3 schools might be the 3rd best team). To find their last period of national relevance, you have to go back to the 1940s. They aren't like Tennessee in that they were a dominant program at some point during the modern era and have fallen on hard times.

He's on a high right now and got paid - good for him. But once you hit these levels, people think you can do it again or do it consistently, even at programs like Minnesota.

They're at 8 wins already this year and haven't played anyone.
