Making my first trip to your stadium this year and looking very forward to it. We’re going to spend next week in Pigeon Forge leading up to the game. I had a couple of questions. The only other away game I’ve made (besides SEC Championship) was to Georgia. How is the area around the stadium set up in comparison to LSU and Georgia?

Our club of about 15-20 usually gets to the stadium around 5:00 AM to get set up. We have about 4 pop-up tents, DJ system and such. Are you able to set up near the stadium? At LSU and when I went to Georgia, you were able to pull over around campus and set up. Just wondering what to expect. Thanks for the info.

To park around the stadium you must have a permit. Your best bet is either going to behind the businesses on Cumberland Avenue or atop the 11th Street Garage.

Just to clarify, I wasn't concerned about being right next to the stadium. Could be even a 5-10 minute walk. Is all this area permit parking only?

UTK Parking Areas Available During Football Games
Football season is an exciting time on the campus of The University of Tennessee. To assist you in planning game day activities, parking information is summarized below.
On Campus Parking: All parking on campus is by football parking permit only. Campus areas are reserved for Athletic and Alumni donors and donor permits must be secured from these areas. There is no general public parking on campus.
You will be about 15 minutes away from the stadium (on foot) behind Cumberland Ave.

I think one of the best places to park would be at the methodist church parking lot right when you turn off Henley onto Cumberland. Last time I parked there I think it was like thirty bucks but it's a close walk and alot of visitors set up there. Plus it's very easy to get on the interstate and leave from there, always a plus!!

Was wondering this. I know besides the 102,000 people the stadium holds, there must be quite a few that go there just to tailgate. Do most UT fans have permits to park on campus, or do most folks set up off campus? After the foods cooking we usually walk around a bit and like to see the opposing fans setups.

Are there any things you recommend seeing on game day while on your campus?

The Vol Walk, which occurs about two hours prior to kickoff is something worth seeing. Other than that, make your way to any tailgating spots that smell good.

Hello Tiger55

I live here in Baton Rouge and the topography of UT campus is not like LSU where there are alot of open flat spaces to tailgate.

You will have to find or create your own. There are a few places within 15 minute walk of Neyland to set-up. At the south end of Cumberland Ave there is (or was in 2004) a large parking area..maybe $10-$20 bucks.

Other wise all the "hidden" places on campus that do not require a permit are already taken by the home crowd.

I have about 10 LSY fans I work with meeting me there and I am struggling to get us all close by.

Didn’t think about that. Guess you get spoiled with the way LSU is set up where you can tailgate almost anywhere on campus. Wasn’t trying to force my way in, we just usually enjoy being in the middle of the opponent’s crowd. We usually have tons of fun with them all day long. Trading food and such. Were set up for the Georgia game right in the middle of their fans. Gave us a hard time jokingly when we set up, but they loved trying out the seafood gumbo, fried alligator, soft shell crabs and such. I think it’s fun sharing what you’re use to with other people.

We try to do as much "Louisiana" type food as possible. We were waiting to see when kickoff was to set the menu. As of now we have seafood gumbo, fried aligator, fried softshell crabs, fried shrimp burgers and BBQ shrimp.

This is true. I have parked there a few times myself and it always has some good tailgates.

I heard the guys from the tigerpimpnation.com are going to be in Knoxville - have you ever seen this group? They were at the LSU v. Bama game last year and were hysterical! They took over the quad in Tuscaloosa.

Anyway, just a rumor....
