I'll be cruising around near the stadium tomorrow a couple hours before the game. If any of you guys see me make sure and say hi. Then I'm parking that sucker at my friends house while we go to the game. I'm not about to leave it parked somewhere that some redneck KY fan can screw with it :)

We're hoping to get up there by 2pm so we still have plenty of daylight to drive around. I took it up there in 2009 and some a-hole KY jelly fans actually threw stuff at us as we were driving past the stadium.

My cousin lives outside of Tempe. Borrowed his white Vette to cruise the strip during the 98 NC and slapped some orange power T's on it with duct tape backing since magnets are useless on a fiberglass body. Once I hit the strip a trucker pulled in behind me with the ultimate Tennessee rig...truck was cooler than the Vette.

My buddy owns a printing company that creates designer car wraps. He's going to print up some orange and white checkerboard strips to run down the side for next football season. Sure it's a bit cheesy, but it's football, and they are easily removable. Now, the "T" on the hood....that's painted on :)

That's a great looking car man. What year is it? I'm guessing 78

When someone says Vette this is what I picture. A curvy, hippy, sexy beast of a car. The modern ones never even enter the picture.

I know what you mean. The C3 era ('68 to '82) will always be my favorite. My dad and I just picked up a '69 as our new project. We're still disassembling it for a full frame off restoration. This will be roughly a 2 year project, and there will be a lot of money put into it, but that '69 will be worth it when it's finished.
I would LOVE to have a new corvette, but you're right...they're not as sexy as they were back in the day.

what was the HP of the 69 vs the 78?

what was the HP of the 69 vs the 78?

69 Vette's were 300 HP for the base but there was just as many 350 HP and 390 HP made. There were also a small number of 400 and 435 HP (little over 2,000 of each).

78 Vette's were only 185 HP for the base and 220 HP for the L-82 model.

1969 Vette is an entirely different beast from a 1978.

A rare 1967 Corvette recently sold for $3.2 mi and a rare 1968 recently sold for $625,000.

They were two completely different animals off the assembly line. The '69 we just picked up came with a 4-speed transmission and a 350 hp engine. The '78 stock was about 190hp after being neutered with emissions control guidelines and a crappy Rochester quadrajet carb that would only run on two barrels unless you stood on the pedal for about 5 seconds in order to kick in the rear barrels. After the engine rebuild my '78 is closer to 250hp with all the emissions control hardware removed. We will probably build the '69 to somewhere around 400hp. Very drivable, but not something that will kill you :)

[EDIT] Dunlap posted just before I did. Took the words right out of my mouth.

Hopefully no one messes with you. It's really a nice car, with a fantastic paint job.

I'm jelly.

All,

I bought 4 tix a few months ago, but I'm not gonna use 2 since it's so cold. My daughter has reynauds and she would be uncomfortable.

We are in section 112/113 row 5.

Hate to see them go to waste.

My wife (she is a Ky fan) and I will be going.

If interested please post and I will get you contact info.

Basically be vol fans and a donation gets them.

I have owned 2-427-435 horse tri-power convertible 69's, and one 427-390 hp T-top. All 3 were Riverside Gold. I didn't go looking for that color. That is just what they happened to be. This was during the 1980's.

Anyway, part of the big horsepower difference can be attributed to the gross versus net horsepower rating , which started in 1971-72. Take about 20-25% off of the old ones, and that is how they would be rated today.

I had a 79 L 82 back in my younger years. Did you have any trouble getting use to the long front? I recall bumping into curbs and such because you can not see the very front due to the big slope. Loved that car but someone ran into me and I ended up selling. Yours is awesome looking, have a great time today representing the Vol faithful.
