Talent Level

First, Butch will be darn lucky to keep the incoming class together after we finish 5-7. Second, don't you ever get tired of the "we don't have the talent" excuse year after year after year after year. Other teams are able to turn it around IMMEDIATELY. Look at what Franklin did in ONE YEAR at Vandy. Look at what Freeze did in ONE YEAR at Ole Miss. Look at what Malzahn did in ONE YEAR at Auburn. Look at what Pinkel did in ONE YEAR at Missouri. You also need to look at the recruiting class rankings for the past 5 years and you will find that Tennessee has ranked higher than these teams most years except for Auburn and last year's Mississippi class. Find another excuse ... GOOD GRIEF!!!

This is a typical reactionary post after a disappointing performance. Butch Jones isn't selling a pie in the sky overnight success story to a bunch of wide eyed kids. Our rival coaches remind our commits every day how bad our team is right now and I don't think Hurd, Hendrix, Kelly, Barnett, Gaulden, Bates, Lambert, Payne and co. are going anywhere. None of them have expressed disappointment in this season because they weren't sold on this team to begin with. This program just desperately needs stability on the coaching staff and unconditional support from it's fan base....and exactly what the hell has Vandy done in ONE YEAR as you put it? Look even worse on the road and on defense than Tenn?

They should only expect unconditional support if they show constant effort and improvement - the way they coached and played last 2 games they took a huge step back and as grownups (hopefully) should expect their coaching decisions, preparation, effort, etc all to be HEAVILY scrutinized.

This board is a nightmare after a loss...it's not about talent or depth or coaching or any one particular thing. It is a mix of all of them. We have talent, but it's not a fit for the system we want to run. Our team has run three different systems in the past 5 years, maybe more if you count coordinator switches. A slight edge in talent can't beat out system consistency, as we saw tonight. We do need more depth, and that will come. This coaching staff needs TIME to install their system in order for us to get to where we want to be. That requires PATIENCE and SUPPORT from the fanbase, not exploding in rage when we lose a few games in an entirely new coaching staff's first season after a disastrous few years.

Currently the Vols are next to last in the SEC as far as talent is concerned

People keep saying this, but I am not sure I buy this - it is an excuse. Our O-line has as much talent, or more, as anyone in the nation, yet they cannot be counted on when needed. Is this a lack of talent, or is it a failure of coaching? I am very concerned that it is the latter, not the former.

Wish everyone understood this. Our team doesn't match up with the majority of the sec right now.

It's not the fact that we recruited badly. It's the attrition that we've had, and having a terrible head coach. It takes more than this year to correct Dooley's mistakes. We've been coached to an extreme negative direction. That's what nobody realizes.

You might want to check yesterday's game results. It seems that Franklin and Vandy kicked Florida's butt at the Swamp. When was the last time Tennessee won a meaningful game on the road?

Thanks for playing and please try again. :eek:lol:
