First of all, lets be realistic... theres no such thing as stepping down or resigning in big-time college athletics. and UT football IS big time college athletics.

This man was given the opportunity to step down or be fired. thats how it works at that level.

maybe he wasnt a good fit, maybe the talent wasnt there for his schemes, or maybe he just couldnt get it together this year, but for whatever reason, he is gone. what i would like to know is why it took so long for a change to be made. it seems as if the Vol Nation has been asking for a change at his position for longer than just this season. what was the deal? who did he know or what did he know?
ive heard that he was kept on because he knew some things that could have hurt us in all the court cases goin on around coach fulmer. much talk radio has been trying to fire him for a long time. well, there you go.

who knows, lets get ready for those irish and catch em asleep.

anyone else goin to see them play the irish?

I actually think he bit the bullet here. Just heard that he would have been better off financially to get fired. I think he showed his love for the program for throwing in the towel.

I think he could have cut a deal to resign and yet take the same advantages as getting fired.

You showed your color with that comment. Everyone knows RS has been given so many chances because Coach Fulmer tends to have an undying loyalty to his staff.

i think coach fulmer hung the moon, but i dont buy into the undying love for RS being the reason he stayed. if thats true, our coach needs to look at a few things. number one being that you sometimes have to fire your friends if they are messing up your business.

am i the only member of the Vol Nation who thinks this?

No, many of us find it to be a flaw of Coach Fulmer. I however find it to be refreshing to see someone stick by his guy as long as he can. Its not like RS had been completely inept before... but this season finally caught up to him.

I also found the FineBomb thing a tad fishy. I hate that guy.

No you aren't. This has been coming down the pipe for a while. You cannot say that he has made the most of his opportunity. That 1999 team had plenty of talent to win with.

hehe Okay, I'll accept it... I'll cry later if I find out you're a bammer. Welcome to the VN!

Finebaum also tries to stir up the bammers a lot too... he's a strange character.

thanks. i guess im a bammer in the sense that i live there. but i went to school at Jacksonville State University and i guess you'd call me a Gamecocker of sorts. I started pulling for the Vols as a little kid because i loved to play Rook, and the orange rook card was Vol orange in those days.... so i wanted vol shirts/ hats/ etc... and it just sorta stuck.

at 30 years old though, i find it hard to have any real passion toward college athletics, but i do enjoy the games a lot, and this year ive had no titans to enjoy, so i decided to hop on full fledged with the vols, and they fell off the map with my titans....

That idiot has made a living antagonizing Bama fans....who else in the world, besides Fulmer can say that?

Bill King has started using Randy Sanders name. I'm with Bill, I'm happy the changes happened but sad it took what it did to get them to happen.

He needed to go for a LONG time. Fulmer didn't want him to go, and he didn't fire him. But the fact remains that firing Randy won't be enough. Fulmer needs to bring in new blood.

well with Washington (better than RS being gone IMO) and Slade gone as well there will be alot of new blood.
