Has anyone noticed that Tennessee upped Tamari Key’s height from 6’5” to 6’6”? I always thought she was taller than 6 foot 5, as if you see the difference between her and Emily Saunders, there is a clear height difference. I think she may even be 6 foot 7. What are your all’s thoughts why Tennessee didn’t post her accurate height from the beginning? Doesn’t make sense to make her taller now…

No one knows for sure why its listed the way it is. It seems she is taller in practically every photo I see. I'm sure Tamari is okay with it otherwise, with social media, everyone would know. Maybe Tamari does not want her real height listed.

I do think she’s grown since she started at UT. She and Emily were definitely closer to the same height as freshman.

Some very tall women also prefer not to have their true height listed. Some in the past have asked to be listed shorter because they weren’t comfortable with their height, similar to how many prefer not to have their weight listed. I remember a time where that was fairly common but you never see it anymore.

I noticed our local high school no longer lists heights for the volleyball players. I wondered if there were a deeper reason or they just didn’t feel like making another column lol.

I am 99.99999% sure that anyone in this thread who could genuinely be puzzled as to why an extra-tall woman might be inclined to under-report her height, is a male. THINK, guys.

I was once able to think about these things clearly. but ever since I went to sensitivity training class and learned there are a dozen genders, I'm too afraid of the consequence of thinking.

Tamari will face a minimum of nine of the other centers this season and has already faced one in a closed scrimmage. Would love to know how that closed scrimmage went. Regardless, the table is set for Tamari. Go get it girl!

watching her last year, she got stronger and tougher as the game went on...Kinda like the green fellow,," The more Hulk fight, the stronger Hulk get"

I'd like to see Tamari being so greedy for rebounds that she's sometimes battling her own teammates for the ball. That's how Pat Head was as a player! lol

But seriously, if Key becomes a player who is confident as both as a shot-blocker AND as a beast on the boards on both ends, she'll be first-team all-American. She'll score in double figures regardless, but her rebound numbers are going to have to jump before she'll be the type of player opposing coaches have nightmares about. Opponents will be demoralized if they have to worry equally about trying to get a shot off in the lane without having it blocked AND if they'll ever be able to get a darn rebound if they miss if Key is on the floor. I want Tamari to irritate and humiliate any opponent who dares to enter her lane. :D

Another thing I believe would help Tamari become a first-team all-American is if she'd throw on a pair of safety goggles like Fran Belibi wears. I've observed that Key sometimes appears visibly worried about getting poked in the eyes. She has every reason to, because shorter players' outstretched hands often end up on or near her face on rebounds and interior passes. If she would wear goggles she could just ignore all that and keep her eyes open and mind focused on what she needs to do instead of having so often to worry she's going to catch a claw to the cornea.

Tamari is very much a long-lash-wearing girly-girl and so would never do it on her own. But if I were the head coach, I'm not so sure I wouldn't be trying to talk her into it!

Get yourself some cool goggles, 'Mari!!!!

I agree with this and think it would help a lot if she is comfortable wearing it maybe one like Diamonds are cool but hella expensive

You got short changed. My training session required all attendees to acknowledge there were actually more than 700 genders. I shiznit you not.

I'll tread lightly here, as I should. I believe many UT fans agree that they are hoping Key has developed over the offseason in aggressiveness and post offensive game.
That is, imo, what keeps her a tier below the best post players up to this point in her career. Especially the lack of aggressiveness. You see it in her game and find yourself saying, "if she ever got a nasty streak and a few more post moves, she would be really good".
I don't know if she has that in her, but if it doesn't surface in this, her Junior season, maybe it's just not there. I expect some incremental improvements in both areas, and maybe I am wrong and she explodes this year. We should know in a month or so either way.

She is pure Beta,,,a nasty streak would work against her,,,any emotion does,,,that why she seemingly has very little displays after her blocks and scores. Has to remain at an even keel to perform,,,pure Beta...Dominant Beta,, but pure

It's iike having Kyle Alexander as your post - great rim protector, shot blocker, shot alterer, space eater, etc. on the defensive end, but not a great offensive player.

I think we need to simply appreciate what she gives us, which is a lot, and view any offensive improvements as a bonus. We should also recognize that she has apparently been growing while at UT, and with growth spurts comes a little unsteadiness and awkwardness trying to get used to the new body. So let's give her a break and appreciate what we have in her, which is a lot. She anchors our defense and plays a contributing role on offense. It's OK that she doesn't dominate on both ends.

Key will have good and bad games depending on how the Refs let her play. They called two very questionable fouls on her in an exhibition game so I'm sure were going to see some foul trouble from her. She got so many of the same questionable calls last season. They affect her play and the teams play.

Good comparison but Key is more dominant defensively. And I completely agree that we need to count on her for shot-altering defense, locking down the paint, rebounding, and second-chance opportunities. I think we have plenty of scorers this year.
