Tanking in College Football?

Makes sense to me. I don't know what "tanking" means in this context and it sounds like all parties involved think it's the best move.

Little bit of trivia, Kyle Trask was his backup at Manvel, Tx high school. I wonder if the success Trask is having is affecting his decisions.

Their 2 best players are sitting this year, hence the tanking..

Kids only sit when what's in front of them makes it the sound personal choice. If a player comes into a program as a stud and views himself as a 3-year starter, it's fruitless to slap a redshirt on him. He's just leaving as a redshirt Sophomore. I don't think that comes up as often in Houston. The emphasis is probably getting meaningful playing time in college.

This could open up a whole new can of worms in CFB. Has this ever been done? Legit All-American caliber players deciding to sit out a losing season to redshirt without being injured???

Could it be what Beuce Pearl did the year he got fired. Sitting Bryan Williams for a "Back injury" when actuality it was a failed drug test. And if it would have been a failed drug test it would have met the expulsion period since he was already at his maximum allotment for failed drug test.
