Target security breach affects up to 40M cards - WTOP.com

Basically anyone that shopped there between November 27th and December 15th and paid using a credit/debit card needs to cancel their cards asap. Target is telling people to simply monitor their statements for fraudulent activity which is a completely retarded response. Every card used there during that time has been compromised will always be compromised as long as the card is still useable. This is a massive screw up.

Meh. It'll happen again somewhere else eventually.

Probably, but hopefully a company has the moral ability to tell people they should cancel their cards instead if hoping they will continue shopping at their stores and pretending everything is ok.

Just because there is a breach doesn't mean everyone should run out and cancel their debit card. Monitoring is the best advice.

This is going to be bad for Target - they should have been more aggressive in how they handled this.

My bro-in-law works in the Target towers in Minneapolis. He's on the 12th floor. One dude in his office can see home plate of the Twins baseball field from his desk. On game day, he has the radio on and everyone on his floor is crowded around that window.

So if you call Target for a service issue and a game's going on, chances are, your hold will be a little longer.

They gave 10% off purchases in B&M this weekend to apologize for the breach

What do yall think companies should do if they're breached?

Sony gave free and discounted games to people not long ago, but im curious, what other companies have done this to say sorry?

I think it's less about "sorry" and more about aggressively and immediately helping customers deal with the potential ID theft. IIRC, there were complaints that Target was pretty passive in it's notification efforts.

Yep. They didn't send out emails or notify anyone. The news came several days later from a 3rd party.
