Ive noticed that UGA and Bama seem to be targeting Tennessee kids more than usual. I wonder if this is in direct response to CLK aggravating them or maybe its just the norm. Bama's '11 list seems heavily populated with Tennessee kids. Maybe 2011 is just going to be a great year for instate talent. If we have any, any success on the field next year, I look for the Vols to have the #1 class next year.

I thought Tennessee didn't have much talent :) Makes you wonder why they would directly go after our in state kids.

yet another brilliant ruse by CLK to get our opponents to target the less talented TN kids. He'll go after the big talent while they concentrate on busting his wall

I think there is some talent in state. However, I think your "big fish" are going to come from recruiting nationally.

Bama will not have a top 10 class this year. Probation on the way to much to overcome.

I don't think they are targeting Tennessee b/c of Kiffin's comments. If you look at UA past couple of years, they have recruited about the same amount from Tenn and have been pretty successful. I have heard the talent in Tenn for the next few years is going to be pretty good or at least better than in years past. You would think they would probably get a little extra satisfaction getting a kid from Tenn though.

Alabama is down this year talent wise so they are hitting TN hard and will probably clean house in Memphis.

They can clean Memphis out if they wish. We will be cleaning house nationally!

2011 is going to be the best year in the state in quite some time...you could take the top 10 players from TN in that class and nationally they stack up against any state....,I'd get the top 10 guys and cherry pick everywhere else...TN has elite talent in 2011...

I put it like this.....I'm going to list the top 10 TN guys for 2011 and I challenge anyone to find a state that has 10 better

3. Jabriel Washington- ATH TCA
4. Devrin Young- RB/CB Bearden
5. Christian Coleman- TE/DE Milan
6. Terry Redden- DT Whitehaven
7. Hunter Long- OL Briarcrest
8. Jake Overbey- QB USJ
9. Aaron Bryant- LB Hillsboro
10. Tyler Rice- QB Wayne County

While it's nice to see local kids playing for UT, what does it really matter? This isn't the 30's and 40's where you can't easily see kids play from other states and primarily have to field your team with in-state kids.

The more time Saban and Meyer and other coaches target TN prospects, the less time they spend guarding their own. Then kids in their own state high schools feel slighted and we get commits from them, a.k.a Nu'keese and Janzen Jackson.

Well, if we start winning then the in-state kids will WANT to come play for UT and this will no longer be a problem.

I agree with that, I guess I'm just not viewing it as a real "problem."

There is still a period of uncertainty surrounding the program. A ton of recruits have already taken notice, locally and nationally, but I mean our focus is to target and land the best recruits in the country. If that means overlooking a few in-state kids, or letting other SEC schools take a shot at them, so be it. We'll be scouring their own states and other ones as well looking for talent that fits our agenda.

While Lane may like taking a few shots at other schools and probably got a bit of evil satisfaction from taking kids from under rivals noses, I'm sure he realizes even though we spare no expense to recruit nationally, it still takes more time and effort for other schools to come up to Tennessee to recruit our state's players, too.

Basically I guess my stance is any star player that wants to play for our university is fine with me, whether that's a player out of Alcoa TN, Cherokee County AL, or Pierre SD.
