Tarkenton Goes Mental On Mark Richt

Quote from Tark:

When I read comments like [Richt's] … we’re putting spin on everything. In the meantime Alabama and Auburn and Tennessee are working and kicking our butts and recruiting people

CDD is in their head!

Fran has seemed to have a screw loose the last few times I've heard him.

If TN is going head to head v. UGA for a recruit I'd put this in the player's face so they can see what they are getting into if they sign with UGA.

Other teams did it to TN when these same things were being said about Fulmer when he refused to step down, which helped cause TN's poor recruiting in those final years.

I don't get how UGA is pulling in a solid class. NEGATIVE RECRUITING WORKS - USE IT.

Is this the interview where he says CMR should go coach at the school of theology over in Decatur? Very funny.

I do like Mark Richt as a person. He is a good man with strong moral beliefs. However, he is Fulmer 2.0.

Tarkenton seems to have lost his mind on this one. In what universe is Tennessee kicking their butts right now? Sure the Auburn and Alabama part is right but not UT. They are way ahead of us in recruiting this year, and have won 2 of the past 3 meetings on the field, including last year where UT didn't even bother to show up and the got run out of the stadium before halftime.

Could a person make a case that CMR is better than CPF?

No. Purely because CPF has a National Championship. It may have taken him a long time to do it, but he did it in the same amount of years at UT than CMR has been at UGA.

Not in my mind. How can a coach that has only won the SEC once IIRC vs Fulmer who won multiple SEC titles and the first BCS NC GAME. If you blotted out the names, and looked at the resume of both coaches without bias, Fulmer's would dominate Richt's in almost every way, shape, and form.

The fact that Richt has only won one SEC title despite the wealth of talent he has had at UGA has caught up with him. I mean these guys have like 7-8 years of top 5-10 recruiting stockpiled and lost to Colororado and UCF. I just hope he keeps on squeaking by. The longer he stays at UGA, the stronger of a foothold we will get in GA.

Same...

At least Georgia will be willing to get rid of him as soon as he's jumped the shark, instead of hanging around 3 extra years to further run UGA into the ground.

The interview was given in the week after the Liberty Bowl. This is already old news in Georgia. Fran made a LOT of really good points, but is known more now as a shock jock -- unfortunately he ruffled a lot of feathers with his religion comments about Richt. Once he did that, his legit points on football were lost on a lot of folks.

It's been no secret that our depth and talent have been down for a FEW years. It didn't just all of a sudden happen in 2010. That's not the case with Georgia. They have had the talent, but can't get over the hump and consistently beat teams like Tennessee. We've run the Dawgs out of the stadium a little the last few years as well don't forget!!! No one blames UT for the loss in 2010. I think this is what Fran was referring to --

2009 - 45-19
2007 - 35-14
2006 - 51-33

While Georgia may have won the last 2 of 3. We've won the last 3 of 5! And we won them big time in years when Georgia was loaded with talent. I think that's what Fran is referring to.

...except the head-to-head, which some people deem pretty important.
