Read my posts in the politics forum about opiate addiction. They are in the thread about the terror attack on the sidewaks in Canada. It's an issue that hits very closely to home for me. There is an epidemic in our country right now. 10 to 15 MILLION people addicted to opiates....all the the doctors at pain clinics are the only ones who will even write prescriptions for pain pills, and the streets are flooded with heroin and in most places fentanyl and carfentanyl, which are much much stronger and deadly. It's a real crisis...kids,moms, teachers, cops, nurses, judges, all dying from opiates. We need to address it instead of throwimg away money on witch hunts and interfering in civil wars abroad.

I agree. Doctors have over-prescribed pain medication and caused normal people to become addicts. Then, when they can no longer get their pain pills they make the switch to heroin. These are normal everyday people becoming heroin addicts because of this.

How is the opioid situation in states that have legalized marijuana for recreational use?

Things started spiraling when they made pain the "fifth vital sign."

Chronic crippling pain makes you wish you were dead sometimes, and is devastating to quality of life at all times. I live in constant pain.

Teachers should definitely be compensated better

Meh. Supply and demand. I graduated with a fairly high paying degree in Utah, one of the stingiest states in terms of teacher pay, and we made the same $ out of college if you factor in that they have 3 months off.

Absolutely. The dilemma is people that take pain pills for a period of time for pain (back surgery, etc), get "fixed" so to speak, then try stop taking the pain pills have withdrawal symptoms worse than the original pain, so they keep taking more pain pills. In my opinion if you have non curable chronic pain - load up. (There's gotta be better ways to deal with pain than narcotics) It also helps to not let the pain get so bad that you have to take a ton just to knock it out.sometimes a little will work when it initially starts instead of a lot when it gets bad.

And heroin in many cases is much cheaper.

Really its always cheaper. The Only pills I have ever seen in the neighborhood of heroin strength were opana...at higher doses it was close. Still, a 30mg opana is 50 or 60 bucks on the street, back when you could get them, and a 10 dollar bag of heroin is still a little stronger. Vicodin are very weak in comparison, and still at least 1 dollar a mg...7.50 to 10 bucks each. Minimum. Percocet are 1.50 a mg, if its Roxy, with no cut, they are 2 dollars a mg...it goes on and on.my BIL and his wife are strung out on heroin as we speak. Raising their kids.

What the other poster said is true, pill mills and a very, very, addictive substance have turned moms, teachers, lawyers, judges, regular people into addicts. Then they move to heroin..

10 to 15 million in the US right now.

That's an epidemic. Thats a crisis.

I actually don't take them until I can't bear it. I haven't taken a opiate in two months, and it was six months before that. I only get enough to get me through a rough stretch, like the last time i got 12-7.5 hydrocodones. When it gets really bad I will get a prescription to get me through it, I do not want to be on a monthly program. I know the dangers and manage it. People are responsible for their own stupidity.

I don't know why anybody that just takes the crap to get high would even bother buying pills anymore.

I had 2 major back surgeries and got hooked. Fortunately didnt destroy my finances lose my h ouse etc...but hirt my wife emotionally, caused problems etc. Opiates are a cruel mistress. Very very sneaky, incredible withdrawal, build tolerance faster than anythi mg I have ever seen too.

I agree, if taken to get high...pain pills will kill you. The Tylenol and ibuprofen destroys kidneys and liver past 3000mg a day. Destroys. Heroin is much, much cheaper. Be very careful bro. I knew all the dangers and still got hooked

Like I said, I take them when I absolutely have too, which is very rarely. I have been managing excruciating pain for the last 15-20 years. I know what to do. I have taken less than a hundred pills in three years.

I have a legitimate chronic condition..if I wanted to, I could stay strung out for the rest of my life.

I will add this, having the Lord as the center of my life gives me strength. I don't want to be high on drugs.

We are in the same boat in 1 way. I could be on enough pills to kill a horse if i was not against it..for life. I've got enough titanium in my spine to build an aircraft. Those things are the devil though. Rather be a husband and dad than an addict, million to 1. Take care bud. God is great indeed, without Christ, I could have never gotten away from opiates.
