This was posted on another site and it really had me thinking. Hopefully after CBJ has two full recruiting classes in 2014 & 2015 we'll be stocked to compete.

PhantomVol - Just trying to get a handle on 117, so is this correct? Of the players signed in 2009, 4 redshirts are still with us. Of the 25 signed in 2010, 11 players remain. Along the way, 4 JUCOS, 1 transfer, 1 baseball player have been added. Not sure what the attrition rate is, but that can't be good if you want to compete in the SEC.

- This year, we've lost our #1 and #2 quarterbacks to injury for the year...and actually played 2 games with one available QB. Not sure how important the QB position is in winning....

- We lost 2 starting DTs for the year - one to injury, 1 declared ineligible for the season

- I think we've lost 4TEs to injury

- DE - 1 starter broke hand, another contributor strained MCL.

- LB - Starters include 2 converted safeties.

Not making excuses, but I understand where we are. And still, 117 is fighting with pride and hasn't given up. Let's support our Vols in their final game this year.

Do u really think this team plays with heart- I don't see it. I wish I did see it.

yes they played with heart. There's a difference in being physically drained (such as our DL ) was the last two games prior to vandy. They have been playing about 25 to 35% more plays than they should have because of injuries, couch departure, etc. A good rotation is vital to the DL play. That doesnt mean they didnt play with heart. I haven't seen this team quit.

Honestly, I feel like the "heart" talk only comes out during losing times. Would you say LSU has "heart"? How about USC, or Oregon? "Heart" is what you talk about when you don't have "talent" to discuss. It's only ever mentioned in defeat, and by those who didn't participate in the competition.

Still shoulda beat Vandy. Running draw plays up the middle on 3rd and 8 doesn't really have much to do with any of this stuff.

It really wasn't the question of whether or not Team 117 is playing with heart. Instead, all of the factors listed could have really hamstrung Team 117. Just seeing what was listed made me think. Although, I don't recall a baseball player playing on Team 117.

Didn't Brent Brewer play in the minors somewhere?

I think the team played with "heart" against South Carolina and Georgia. I didn't see much "heart" against Vandy. And clearly, we were out classed by Missouri, Bama, Oregon, and Auburn. It's the Vandy game that was the let down of the season.

I would say that Arizona played with "heart" against Oregon. And that Oregon didn't have their hearts into that game, after all they had already been to the rose bowl and won that.

Those problems all had an impact, but the thing that had the largest impact on Team 117's record wasn't anything related to them, it was related to their opponents. Everyone thought before the season that we would beat at least one of Auburn or Mizzou, and quite possibly both. No one expected them to be top 10 teams who with a game left in the season are one win away from representing the West and East respectively in the SECCG. I don't know that either team will be there, but there is no denying that both turned out to be much, much better than expected.

As far as we know, the Greatest Offensive Line in the Country played the season relatively injury free. What's their excuse?

Worley stays healthy the Vol's beat Vandy, (Mizzou & Barn games are a contest) go 6-6 get a bowl game and maybe a bowl win and they are 7-6 and on schedule. One busted thumb and a true freshman QB not yet ready for prime time and the world's coming to an end. I posted a thread called "Where's the Offense" before the Vandy game in which I expressed my doubts the Vols could score enough to win the game. Unfortunately that was and is a real concern. In todays football you have to average 30 points a game to be a winning team. Until they get Worley back or get one of the Freshman ready this is what to expect. As much as I hate to say it they lose to the Wildcats unless they get one of those 10-6 type wins. I sure wish all those "Dobbs is the real deal" posters had been right. Because being a Vols football fan pretty much blows right now.

Don't you know your supposed to coach that up? You're supposed to find players that will fit that mess and get it done. Almost worked with Vandy. The OL should have gotten 1 yard near the end of the game, but couldn't get it done.

yes because Josh Dobbs was in such a great rhythm. we had 50 yard passing the whole game.

Does Dobbs have any control over Smith catching the ball? Does Dobbs have any control over Pig securing the ball?
Before you blame Dobbs for 53 yds......watch the game.. Watch the the game, then look at stats, then throw stones.
